10 years? 50 years? This "project" of theirs has roots back at least to just before FDR... Certainly the "modern" version started with Reagan. It's going to take a lot of unfucking to try and remotely fix any of this, it's quite demoralizing...

I half expected the reason for these closures to be for some other non-car related infrastructure projects... And no... Just typical lane resurfacing and replacements. Like, do you want your roads to function? Then they need regular repair! So dumb. Anyway, expand the train network already!

For Americans who aren't doing well, that message isn't going to win votes. Don't blame me for how they ran their campaign and it not energizing people. It's not some "privilege" to want a candidate to actually make voters excited to vote so they get off their ass and vote.

You are speaking to me like I didn't vote for and try and get others to vote for the better side... I'm just pointing out the facts that Clinton and Harris (and technically also Biden, but he was still a "change" from Trump at the time) all ran on a public message of continuing the same things.

I think people would vote for real change, that's literally what they keep trying to vote for and why Trump got elected (twice). These status quo Dems are enabling the right to keep getting back power on yet another "change" election. We have been in a "change" election cycle since Obama 2008

"costs"? The "people" already pay plenty of taxes. The ones not paying is the 1%. And at this point they have fully exploited the tax avoidance loophole of the stock market, so the only way to actually fix this is to go after unrealized tax gains (in addition to likely raising taxes elsewhere).

They have done real harm and destruction to the core of the government in ways we still haven't fully felt yet. Fixing those things is going to take more than even 1 presidential term and that's assuming we can get a party willing to do Reconstruction + New Deal equivalent combined...

Yeah, to that end, I worry not just for 26 or 28... but beyond. I fear a repeat of 18/20 where we stop and then mildly pushback... and then voters reset and blame current admin for all their problems.

I feel your core message here is one of "if you don't like this, then do something about it" ... without actually articulating that. But like, this is BlueSky... basically everyone here is already voting against this terrible admin and the GOP... But yes, yet another reason to try and change things

The victim was harmed. Being arrested is embarrassing and potentially dangerous. He wasted his time and energy fighting this. He was arrested and detained for 5 hours. And then had to fight for 4 months trying to keep himself out of jail and clear his name. Yes, pay him out to make him whole.

It needs to be said that Nixon is currently getting sidelined (and has been the entire time) by the Dem Party itself. So this plea it not to moderate, but to support those on the left that the Dem Party doesn't actually want to win (Troy Jackson and AES being two others this is happening to.)

I need to add, in case it's not clear. Fuck AI, and I am not at all defending it to take away from experiences. But I think there is a lesson to be had here in this particular example which is that you need to consider how to make reading more fun and intentional if you want people to do it.

This is EXACTLY how I feel about trying to read Shakespeare. It's foundational, I get it. But also, he isn't actually that "great" of a writer, and then combine with how language has changed, and it's just a slog. Given both, as a requirement? I would see people shortcut.

Games like Doom, SMB, Mario 64, OG Zelda, even Donkey Kong Arcade. They are foundational to where we are today, but are kinda bad experiences if you have at all touched anything newer. Had someone who played Odyssey and no other Mario games. I had them try Mario 64 and it nearly killed them.

I know what you are trying to say. But if Video Games were part of the lesson plan, there would be games that students didn't find "fun" or "interesting" and would look for a shortcut out of it.

I feel like this is going to be "well, they aren't doing it yet, so we can't stop them... come back to us after they do bad thing", like they did with the USPS one. And the problem there is basically by the time they are doing this, they are going to get away with it, because voting will be done

The 1230 was David Hogg (not knocking him specifically, but perfect example, white kid...) while the 50% for Harvard is a 1510+. So should David have not gotten in? Or should a black kid with a 1300 be denied over David?
100
chickensevil.bsky.social @chickensevil.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
So when she is trying to suggest that somehow magically these black kids shouldn't get into Harvard by throwing out the national averages as evidence and being like "see they can't even read properly"... it's just dishonest.
100
chickensevil.bsky.social @chickensevil.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
And to be clear, the lowest admission into Harvard that I have found is a 1230 score. Which black or white or whatever, is higher than the "white average".
100
chickensevil.bsky.social @chickensevil.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
being a Police Officer doesn't actually require this "highly rigorous standard" that she is trying to imply exists. And all of this is totally ignoring all the wealthy kids that go to these schools that are NOT at this same "rigorous" level... they are there because they (their parents) have money
100
chickensevil.bsky.social @chickensevil.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
and even if I grant you that this is the AVERAGE and would point to a less than college level reading ability for someone getting the average, the police are not looking for college grads. It's a GED + background chk + POST (exam) eligibility
100
chickensevil.bsky.social @chickensevil.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
and be like, well, they also shouldn't be in the police either because apparently getting a 903 SAT score means you can't read (earlier she mentions that the average SAT score for white people is a 1000, and black people is a 903)

chickensevil.bsky.social @chickensevil.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
Go to whatever "black" school, but we still don't want you to actually practice medicine And the juxtaposition of then immediately pivoting into police as if somehow this is remotely the same level (but if you look at her books on cops, she really likes to boot lick the police, so to her they are)
100
chickensevil.bsky.social @chickensevil.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
So... is it fine to go to a not-Harvard Medical school? Or would it also be "lowering the standards" if you went to ATSU (one of the lowest ranked medical schools) and still passed the MCATs? Oh no, it's not ok, because they lowered the standards for the MCATs (according to her).
100
chickensevil.bsky.social @chickensevil.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
Specifically this response, So, you are saying that black people can and should go to school, but one more fitting of their knowledge level (which on it's face might sound fine) but then she goes off on how they are lowering standards for Medical, Police, Fire, and Air Traffic Control.
Heather Mac Donald: I know. I mean, how can we really believe that merit doesn’t matter that academic skills don’t matter? You were understating the case with medical schools. They have completely different standards of admission. The curves don’t even overlap. Whites and Asians are being rejected with medical college admissions tests, the MCATs that would be an automatic admit if those scores were presented by blacks and Hispanics. And what happens is you admit students that are not competitively qualified into an academic environment for which they’re not prepared. They should have gone to one for which they are prepared. Nobody’s saying that Blacks and Hispanics shouldn’t go to college. They’re saying go under the same conditions as every other group, which is into a school for which you’re academically prepared so that you have the same skills as your peers. But what happens is to their .. Should be dismayed. They’re catapulted into academic environments that they can’t keep up in. They fall behind. And then the next step is, well, we’ve got to lower further standards, which is what’s happened with the part one of the medical licensing exam. And as you say, police and firemen, they need to be able to read instructions on chemicals as a firefighter or read the patrol guide, make certain cognitive judgments. And every single test for testing firefighters or policemen, if it has any kind of reading or writing or math component, will have a disparate impact, sadly, because of this huge skills gap. And so the response is always, get rid of the test or lower the standards. And it does matter. Of course, it matters. Everything matters. Same with bridge building, air traffic control. There’s rarely a field where we have the luxury of being able to say that we don’t need to get the best possible minds there.

The targeted descriptions of these books here on the Manhattan Institute website (where she is a member) are just... really bad
Mac Donald is a prolific author whose most recent book, When Race Trumps Merit: How the Pursuit of Equity Sacrifices Excellence, Destroys Beauty, and Threatens Lives (2023), explains how disparate-impact thinking is jeopardizing scientific progress, destroying public order, and poisoning the appreciation of art and culture. The Diversity Delusion: How Race and Gender Pandering Corrupt the University and Undermine Our Culture (2018) argues that toxic ideas first spread by higher education have undermined humanistic values, fueled intolerance, and widened divisions in our larger culture. The War on Cops (2016), a New York Times bestseller, warns that raced-based attacks on the criminal-justice system, from the White House on down, are eroding the authority of law and putting lives at risk. In Are Cops Racist? (2010), a collection of Mac Donald’s City Journal essays, Mac Donald investigates the workings of the police, the controversy over so-called racial profiling, and the anti-profiling lobby’s harmful effects on black Americans. In The Immigration Solution: A Better Plan than Today’s (2007), coauthored with Victor Davis Hanson and Steven Malanga, she chronicles the effects of broken immigration laws and proposes a practical solution to securing the country’s porous borders. And The Burden of Bad Ideas (2001), another City Journal anthology, details the effects of the 1960s counterculture’s destructive march through America’s institutions.

Sadly this is nothing new with the military. This didn't start with Hegseth and Trump. They have always fucked over service members who have had mental breakdowns. I've seen people thrown in the brig and dishonorably discharged. It's fucked, and the circumstances that lead to this shouldn't exist.
