All 5 chicks are now in the brooder box. I checked the remaining 4 eggs. Only #13 pipped, and that was yesterday. I picked a bit of shell off its pip. Unfortunately that egg is quiet, so the chick may have been a very late quitter. I'll leave the cam on the incubator for now.

All five #Chickam chicks are looking great! We'll be naming them this morning, and moving the two still in the incubator to the brooder box soon. When we move them I'll be able to evaluate the last 4 eggs for pips. I know #13 is pipped. 🥚🐣🐤😃

We moved the first three chicks to the brooder box. As the others get dried out we'll move them, too--#6 and #16 hatched at the same time! After it gets dark, we're gonna try to introduce a broody mama--Either Dart, or Basil.

Welp, #14 didn't make it. 😕 A real shame, too, because she was so vocal and active...but pipped WAY too early, and at the wrong end of the egg. When I went to assist her just now I found she had profound defects (you don't wanna know), the worst I've ever seen.

Okay! I checked #14, and she's still perky, but needs to finish draw-down (where the chick draws its blood out of the membrane and into its body). #Chickam

Pipped eggs: #6, 7, 9, 14, and 16. After 2PM, I'll take out #14 to see how she's doing, and possibly assist her hatching. #12, the hatched chick, is GRUMPY.😁 Everything is going great! #Chickam

No new changes with the two pipped eggs, and no new pips. The two that pipped are fine, #14 still energetic and responsive. Since she's pipped at the wrong end of the egg I may have to assist her, but right now it's too soon. Off to get some sleep, more updates in a few hours! #Chickam

We have two possible #Chickam moms for this year. Basil, a bantam Cochin hen (very floofy, but little). And Dart, breed unknown (not floofy at all, but LARGE AND FIERCE). Both are untested as moms but are mature hens, so less likely to flake off mid-Chickam. Please admire their swole threat posture😁

Good test of the cam, audio & video. The next time I turn it on, it'll be because someone is hatching. It might be +/- 24 hours from now, cause #14 is EARLY. #Chickam

Testing the cam in a few, I'll be fiddling with settings before turning it off again. #14 has pipped and is unzipped a *tiny* bit. If it goes for broke after I'm done testing the cam, I'll start #Chickam. I had to run the incubator a bit hot, so early hatching is no surprise. 😒🐣
