It's been a while since our last post, but we're still here. Also, it's still... Chicano Heritage Month: Day 26 | Manuel Unzueta, Campesinos, Ortega Park, Santa Barbara, California, 1979.
The image shows the “Campesinos” mural in Ortega Park, Santa Barbara, California. It was initially painted by a former director of La Casa de la Raza and later restored by Manuel Unzueta. It depicts three farmworkers (campesinos) working in fields, with the main logo of the United Farm Workers (UFW) also visible. This mural, along with others in Ortega Park, is considered a significant part of Mexican American and Chicano history and culture in the area.

August 2019 saw numerous commemorations of the year 1619, when what was said to be the first arrival of enslaved Africans occurred in North America. Yet in the 1520s, the Spanish, from their imperial perch in Santo Domingo, had already brought enslaved Africans to what was to become South Carolina.
