… and with Rogers’ ability in tight spaces and on the ball he’ll be key if he can find a way to evade Ajayi’s challenges Additionally in Hull’s games so far, opposition’s attacks have come down the left an average of 40% of the time Feels like a no brainer at 7.6m + good mins

ChewieFPL @chewiefpl.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
Finally moving onto Rogers, he provides immense value at just 7.6m He’s created the most chances (10) and joint most big chances (2) in our squad and has the highest xA (1.1) Like Palmer, I think Rogers will be huge for us in this game where Ajayi will be jumping onto him…

ChewieFPL @chewiefpl.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
However, Joao Pedro is still a fine captaincy choice nonetheless, as he’s very capable of linking up play in tight spaces, creating chances for others, and has been roaming slightly wider where he could find space between Hull’s CBs and WBs, which is where they are most exposed

ChewieFPL @chewiefpl.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
… compact and their back 3 have been very dominant in the air so far, meaning if we’re forced out wide, JP will have a really tough time aerially against them Hull also rank 6th best for lowest xG generated to strikers with 0.36 per match, and allow only 11.9% of shots in the 6-yard box

One debate that I’ve seen is whether to captain Palmer or Joao Pedro Palmer seems like the more popular pick at the moment but I’d like to go deeper into why Firstly, Hull’s entire game plan is to deny the opposition from playing through the middle. Their midfield is very…

ChewieFPL @chewiefpl.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
We’ve also been progressing a lot of our play down the right with Palmer himself having a 20% share of all our final third play this season, taking the most shots and shots on target in the squad Add the fact that he’s on penalties and he’s overall a fantastic option this week

ChewieFPL @chewiefpl.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
… can help free him up in space out wide to cross or cut inside Hull have conceded a lot of shots slightly right of the penalty area as well, which is where Palmer is taking his shots Hull have also conceded 0.3 xG per match against RWs so far, 15th most in the league

ChewieFPL @chewiefpl.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
He’s done this exact thing against Fulham for our second goal in GW1, as when Cuenca jumped onto Palmer he was able to avoid the challenge easily and find Lacroix in space, leading to a goal And when Hull get settled into a low block, Palmer’s positional rotations with Neto…

…the more attacking of Hull’s WBs; meaning out of our front 3, Palmer will be the one offered the most space between the wide CB and wingback, and the one with the most potential to create or get into big chances if Mendy mistimes his jump and Palmer gets past him as a result

ChewieFPL @chewiefpl.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
Moving onto Cole Palmer’s appeal for triple captaincy this week, I genuinely think he has a great chance at a double digit haul this week Positionally, I really like the matchup as Nobel Mendy is by far the most aggressive player out of Hull’s 3 CBs (shown below), and Giles is…

ChewieFPL @chewiefpl.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
… if we can get the ball to them in the middle of the pitch, their technical quality in tight spaces can help us unlock Hull’s defence Additionally, as Hull’s wingbacks push up high, the distance between them and the CBs may be overly wide at times, which we could exploit

ChewieFPL @chewiefpl.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
… our front 3. Rogers and Palmer in particular will be key in this game, as when Hull’s wide CBs jump on them, if they can manage to get past them we’ll be able to create some huge chances Additionally our front 3 has been excellent in linking up in tight spaces as well, so…

Again, this idea is very risky - if the wide CBs Mendy and Ajayi mistime their jumps, a huge space opens up behind them which the attackers can exploit Now touching onto how Chelsea can attack this Hull defence, our fast tempo will be key in trying to open up the middle for…

… extremely aggressive once the ball is played to a player between the lines, taking a risk by timing their jumps onto the opponent, limiting the space and time they have on the ball This is exactly how Hull were able to stop Bruno in GW1, forcing mistakes with their aggression

ChewieFPL @chewiefpl.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
One of the risks Hull have taken is with their back 3 - instead of marking man to man, Hull’s 3 CBs instead mark zonally, sometimes intentionally giving up space between the defence and the midfield to avoid balls being played in behind However, the back 3 also have to be…

ChewieFPL @chewiefpl.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
Moving onto Hull’s defensive setup, they’ve been playing in a 541 with narrow wingers, aiming to prevent passes into the middle and force the ball out wide Jakirovic has them extremely well drilled, taking calculated risks to try and win the ball back while also limiting space

ChewieFPL @chewiefpl.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
… deal with a low block. In the past few seasons in particular we’ve struggled with this, dropping points in favourable games against promoted sides on multiple occasions Therefore, I think there’s a chance we could lineup in a 4231 instead which was effective vs Arsenal

ChewieFPL @chewiefpl.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
Firstly, under Xabi Alonso we’ve been lining up in a 3421, with our main principles being to play direct with a high tempo aiming to catch teams out in transition However, this game will be huge in the sense that this will really be the first time we can see how Chelsea…

More opportunities to catch out Hull’s defence -> more volume of dangerous chances -> greater chance of taking good shots, yes

I’ll discuss this more in the thread but Rogers and Palmer are probably the 2 best players in the league in exploiting the one weakness of Hull’s defence
