My 6th SOAS Taiwan Studies Summer School: my most memorable yet. Joined a roundtable on Taiwan fieldwork with Anru Lee, Sam Robbins & Dafydd Fell, and was discussant for the Mrs Islets seminar. Best part: reconnecting with old friends, and finally eating Dafydd's Tropea omelet before 10am!

I had such a great time last week welcoming Chris back to the SOAS Centre of Taiwan Studies and chairing his talk, “The Art of Disturbing the Peace”. I was also able to unite, for the first time, with the Kinmen-focused anthropologists based in England, as well as my MA Taiwan Studies 學長, Matt.

It was amazing to have the opportunity to take part in the fieldwork and travel safety training organised by SPAIS Bristol yesterday. Thanks a million to my dear colleague Yi Wang and everyone, and to Jim, our instructor. It is also great to see that my weight-loss efforts are showing in photos ;)

I am glad to share my first media coverage as a scholar. It is meaningful to see my research enter public conversations, especially on questions that connect infrastructural politics and daily life in places often treated only through grand geopolitical narratives. dominotheory.com/kinmens-phan...

It was an absolutely hectic month. I was glad to join an initial meeting with the BorderLink team & GERP, to discuss further research collaboration. Immediately after that, I took part in this year’s conference of the ABRN, which was brilliantly organised by my colleagues at NTU Geography.

Highlights of 2025 Annual Conference for the European Association of Taiwan Studies. I presented (for the first time) my ongoing spin-off research on Kinmen's ghosts and marine debris, met unbelievably intelligent like-minded young scholars (define young!), and enjoyed the amazing Olomouc.
