As he stepped under the stage lights, she could see that Joey wasn’t wearing a plain black jacket, but one with a black-on-black floral pattern. It was perfectly tailored over his broad shoulders, just as the pants would have been altered to accommodate his still-powerful thighs. She barely breathed as she took in the sight of him, so stunning up there she could hardly look away.

And yet, it almost hurt to look at him and see what she’d had for all too brief a time, and never would again. The team was seated several rows from the stage, but she was still afraid her heart would show on her face and be caught on camera.

Waking up in a strange bed was nothing new to Joey after all this time, but this was the
first time he’d woken up with someone by his side in weeks. Hooking up with Tish at the Games accommodations and hotel had made the whole thing feel suspended from reality. Spending the night at her place was much more personal, and he didn’t take that lightly.

When they were out of earshot, Adrian turned to check on him. “You okay, man?”
Trevor looked flustered. “I’m a lot of things, but I don’t know if okay comes into it. I’m pissed
off at him, about everything that led to this. And you…On the one hand, what are you even doing
here?”
He didn’t wait for an answer, but kept talking. “Whatever it is, I feel like an idiot that you saw
however much of that you did, but I’m also so relieved and grateful I could kiss you, and—”
“Go ahead.” Adrian hadn’t spoken especially loudly, but his words stopped Trevor’s tirade.
“What?”
“Go ahead.” Adrian turned to look him full in the face, his arms at his side and his chin tilted up
slightly. “You’ve made it clear there’s no boyfriend this time, and—”
That was all he got to say before Trevor threw his arms around him and pressed his mouth
against his, cutting off all further words. Adrian pulled him close of his own accord.
