Ifølge Landbrugsavisen er antallet af hekltidsgårdejere nu mindre end én promile af befolkningen. Vi nærmer os koncentration af jord som under feudalismen

This division line is also seen between sectors. Politicians are Greenlandic, Private Business leaders Danish. And on key demographics, where politicians have very different education, residence area and gender composition than other groups.

Most importantly, the power elite network is fractured by country of origin. Those with Greenlandic schooling (in orange) occupy particular areas of the network, those without (in black) other areas.

This power elite has many of the same sectors as we have seen in our analysis of Denmark. However, politics (28 %) and state (18 % civil servants and 17 % from state owned corporations) are much stronger.

Some context: Based on the recent American territorial ambitions, we decided to finally try to publish our work on formal elite networks in Greenland. How the Greenlandic power elite reacts to American overtures can change the geopolitical of the world.

Though our interviews, we then explore the technocratic mindset and - with the exception of union leaders - find a large convergence among the technocratic lodestars described above

Adding to this, we find that most elites have worked in one of the 85 key technocratic career hubs, in particular those having a technocratic education, further strengthening their technocratic outlook

We find that around half of the 416 individuals in our analysis have taken a degree that installs some sort of technocratic ethos. In our interviews, lawyers pay almost no attention to their professional background whereas it is a strong identity for both politicial scientists and economists

6. On the methods. To map power structures, we have included different positions of economic power: (1) control over the largest corporations, (2) ownership of vast amounts of assets, and (3) ascendancy over the organisations involved in regulating the economy.

5. Adding to this, the type of skills elite have obtained through their education varies (but not always along the level fof credentials described above). Engineers and natural scientists still constitute a substantial part of economic elites in China, France or Finland.

Christoph Ellersgaard @chellersgaard.bsky.social · 28/03/2025
4. The credentials also differ. In sic of the countries, at least around a fifth have a doctoral degree. However this is very rare, for instance in the Scandinavian countries

3. The degree of international recruitment and recruitment from the economic capital of the country and other key functional urban areas varies substantially. Economic elites in Argentina, Italy, Portugal and France are born in the countries largest urban centres.

2. When looking at the very apex of the economic elites, the lack of gender diversity becomes even stronger. However, the gender gap in WED is strongly correlated with the WEF Gender Gap Index.

Some highlights: 1. Economic elites vary a lot. However, they are varieties of pale, stale and male. Here is the age distribution across gender. Note that in particular the US is very much a gerontocracy, also when it comes to economic elites

With our Advanced Mixed Methods class, we have played with Multiple correspondence analysis and created this neat little social space of Danish Cabinet members in 2025. Based on their delegated and charismatic capital, we find two dimensions: 1) Total capital and 2) Ideological versus Pragmatic

Was playing with MCA in our Advanced Mixed Metods course. We collected data on the Danish government (available here: lnkd.in/drriB3qE) and studied it's social structure (code here:https://lnkd.in/d75uUjwP). A space structured by 1) Political capital 2) Policy professionals vs. local politicians

Sometimes your research turns out to well timed. One of the main ideological whips of the Danish Social Democrats, and Minister of Employment, is publishing a book next week called "The Land of Work", showing the infatuation with hard work currently at work within the Danish power elite.
