I didn't want to coopt @chopaganda.bsky.social's post about Phish tour openers, but he got me thinking about St. Paul 6/22/16. I don't think anyone would consider it a GOAT show by any means, but in addition to the jams, this was a crazy show for checking rarity boxes, and not Spread It Round.

It's that special day, when I make Gwen wear a party hat. She only puts up with it because she knows the steak I'm cooking is for her. She moved in four years ago, so she's approximately five years old. Rescue an animal, it will make your life better.

Summer Phish Tour 96 continued. I am just gonna be honest up front. I had a great time at Clifford Ball, but it wasn't the greatest time, and I had some previously on this tour. I am sure my perspective would be completely different had I been from the eastern seaboard, and this was what you saw.

Summer Phish Tour 96 continued. Travel to the Clifford Ball. The most interesting part of the day was getting a flat tire and stopping in Glens Falls, NY (first visit for me) to get it fixed. Pretty slow moving place, but they understood we wanted to leave, and they didn't want us there.

Summer Phish Tour 96 continued. The drive from Deer Creek to Hershey PA is 600 miles, and 9 hours. We drove through the night, as did a lot of people. Everyone was lagging. Then the Wilson has the unique jam at the end, with Page's carousel effect, and DWD, so back at 'em.

Summer Phish Tour 96 continued. 8/13, second night of Deer Creek. So good they sold it. Anecdotal side note, we met up with a more connected compadre during the day, and went to a campground, to hang for a nitrous session. I had balloons before, but this was different. The guy we met was a dentist.

Summer Phish Tour 96 continued. 8/12, first night at Deer Creek. We had a long drive from MN, but so it goes. This set feels like Phish was mostly thinking about the show tomorrow, but couldn't help playing at great level. Everything past Yamar and Split was nice and tight, for the most part.

Summer Phish Tour 96 continued. A night off for Phish after Alpine, but remember my crew went back to home in the Twin Cities? It was so we could see MMW at the Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis. You haven't been to a church as quiet as this venue was for MMW, I think the band was unnerved.

Almost forgot. The continued Summer Tour 96 journey is a day off from Phish on 8/9, but we saw MMW at one of the most pleasant venues in America, the Terrace at the UW Memorial Union. MMW in 1996 was state of the art. Tomorrow Alpine.

More Summer 96 - 8/2 Phish UT, 8/3 Allman Brothers at Red Rocks (Spin Doctors opened), 8/4-7 Phish at RR. One of my crew was taping Phish, but we were all supportive in that effort. Luckily, I had a friend from home that lived in Golden, so we weren't camping for the shows.

I may be posting through this, my recollections of Summer Phish Tour 1996, thirty years ago. I did the whole thing, with a couple guys. We met some guys at this show from Coeur d'Alene who almost convinced us to move there and grow, cuz it's so pretty...no argument there, but glad we were lazy.
