I'm not saying don't protest. But recent history would suggest that the way leftists protest and message are not good enough. They don't work, they don't achieve anything. So yea, maybe our methods of "resistance" aren't proper enough

I'm saying they're not very plugged in and overly susceptible to the visual imagery of what's happening. And that they don't care whether or not these people are proud of their Mexican heritage, but will respond to the idea of cops abusing Americans

Well I operate in the real world, where the reality is that images of cops fighting American flag waving protesters helps the left and images of cops fighting Mexican flag waving protesters helps the right. It is what it is, man. It sucks. But that's the reality of where we are.

If you're trying to make the visual point that these are Americans being abused by cops, then fly the American flag. If you want to argue against nobody that you're a proud Hispanic, while also visually bolstering the bs messaging from the right, keep flying the Mexican flag. It is what it is.

Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
Yes, the people on the right absolutely do. Again, we're talking about the message that average, centrists Americans are getting. They don't hate being a multicultural country. But they're being told that these are hostile, illegal immigrants that need to be deported. The images help that argument

Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
I totally get why they want to fly Mexican flags. That doesn't make it sound messaging for what the current issue/moment is. In fact, as I've been saying, it's actually supporting the bullshit narrative coming from the right
100
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
Nobody is arguing that they aren't Hispanic. You're not countermessaging anyone with that. This is about whether or not the National Guard has been deployed against Americans, and whether or not these immigrants deserve to be here. Images of the crowd waving Mexican flags only serves to help R's
100
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
Sure, some of them. And now they have images of crowds waving a foreign flag fighting against the Narional Guard to bolster and further spread that narrative
100
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
Republicans have already started shifting from "they don't belong here / deserve to be here" into "hostile Mexican adversaries have invaded the US" If that's their message, images of crowds waving Mexican flags fighting the National Guard supports that message, too.
100
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
You don't beat fascist rhetoric by actively supporting it with the images you create, either. Using American flags not only cuts their messaging at the knees, but supports the protesters arguments of "they belong here" and "the US is abusing its own people"
200
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
Again, because Republicans kicked our ass on messaging around inflation
200
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
Power. We don't need that many Republicans, plenty of which represent purple districts, to publicly acknowledge this for what it is and to help stop it. But we need those purple voters to pressure them, first. To do that, we need an effective counter to Republican messaging.
000
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
All of you who don't think proper, effective messaging is a powerful tool that Republicans are significantly better at. All of you who can't see that flying the Mexican flag is playing into their narrative. So, however many of you fall into that group are morons
000
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
The administration probably won't anyways, but we need ppl to see what's happening for what it really is. We need significantly larger protests, the kinds that House Republicans will actually respond to. If we're going to stop this, we need a few Republican representatives
200
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
Which I'm sure they will, but this isn't about how they vote in 2026 and 2028 this is about them seeing what's happening for what it really is. If a majority of Americans are buying the Republican narrative, there's no incentive for them to stop
200
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
The message isn't "these brown people are good ones", the message is "they belong here" Republicans are asserting they're not Americans and don't deserve the same rights. The simplest way to visually counter that is US flags. Images sway people. Mexican flags play into Republican messaging.

Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
She got less votes than Joe. Some of that was her not having a full campaign cycle to nail down a good message to voters thanks to Joe, some of that was her running too much on "trump sucks", and yes some of that was protest non-votes. I'm not sure which was the biggest factor but all played a part
110
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
Right, and now that it's happening, Republicans are trying to justify it with their messaging/narrative that Californians are playing into
100
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
We're not trying to appease the Republicans, though. We're messaging to average Americans who aren't super plugged in. Which, again, very easy to digest the Republican messaging if all they see is a bunch of Mexican flags. It's a significantly harder pill to swallow if it's US flags

Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
I grew up in Missouri, man. Went to school in rural, southern MO. I also know plenty of those people. I'm friends with true centrists. You absolutely have a bastardized view of them. And FWIW, they didn't vote for *this* the trump administration lied and said they'd only target criminals
100
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
Dems ran on "see, even these guys hate trump" that was the problem. The message was "trump sucks" which was never effective. Kamala also lost because people refused to vote b/c of Gaza. Lot of good those no-votes did for Palestinians, btw. Congrats, nothing changed AND we've lost cancer research
100
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
Democrat voters also suck at messaging. "Defund the police" was a horrible, stupid slogan that almost nobody in poor, black communities actually supported. It was mostly upper middle class white people who thought they were doing good
100
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
They had no means of countering the messaging. But they certainly didn't **play into the messaging** from Nazis, like Californians waving Mexican flags are playing into Republican messaging. They're shooting themselves in the foot while cops shooting them in the face
100
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
FWIW Kamala actually did a good job during the one, single televised debate that she had. Thats why Trump refused to do more debates. His team knew they had already won the messaging war, and more debates would only make it worse. You have such a bastardized view of centrists. They're ill-informed
100
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
Because they genuinely believed that he'd lower costs and save them money. Because Republicans effectively positioned immigrants as people who don't belong here. Joe and Kamala didn't do a good job messaging their platform. Joe didn't help. Democrats suck at messaging, they have for decades.
200
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
Nazis framed Jews - through effective messaging - to average Germans as "others" who don't belong in Germany. Republicans are trying to frame immigrants - through effective messaging - to average Americans as "others" who don't belong here. The Mexican flags help their case. It is what it is
100
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
Right now, they see police standing off with a bunch of people waving Mexican flags, and Republicans are telling them these people arent Americans and dont belong here. The images of Mexican flags support that narrative.
000
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
That's what makes them centrists, man. They genuinely think both sides have valid points, both sides are prone to exaggeration about the other. They probably don't like trump, personally, but Trump's messaging during the campaign was effective. These people vote mostly with their wallets.
200
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
That's the message theyre getting and the message protesters are supporting by flying Mexican flags. Because people like you have been ignoring how important effective messaging is for decades
100
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
The message centrists are getting is that the government is clearing out US cities of people who dont belong here. Flying the Mexican flag only supports that message.
100
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
You overestimate centrists. You severely underestimate the power of messaging. Centrists think the administration is right because Republicans are significantly better at messaging. They've effectively framed these people as not deserving to be in the country. And you're helping them
000
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
Flying American flags sends the message "we belong here, we want to be here, and the government is fighting against Americans. Not 'illegals' not people who don't belong here, but people who want to be here and deserve to be here"
100
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
I promise you there are centrist Americans who r seeing the Mexican flags and saying "shit, maybe they're not Americans. Maybe they really do deserve to be deported" As well as "well if they love Mex. so much, we're doing them a favor by sending them back aren't we" You're playing into R messaging
200
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
I'm not saying this is guaranteed to work. This is about messaging. The Trump administration is evil, but if you want centrist Americans to see it that way as well, you need to effectively counter the messaging coming out of the Trump administration. By far the easiest/simplest way is US flags
100
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
Cop reactions to BLM protests never got as bad as this is going to get, for starters. Also, the core of the debate was different. The core question here is "are these people who belong in America, or should they be deported" and the US vs Mexican flag gives very different images
100
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
Sure, but that's not what people in the center want. You'll never sway far rights. But people in the center will either see cops shooting protesters/immigrants holding American flags or Mexican flags. If the debate is "do these people belong here" one helps your cause, one helps Republicans' cause
200
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
My whole point is the messaging. Fox and Repub's can very easily frame the conversation around these people not being real Americans, how they don't belong here, how they actually *want* to go back to Mexico bc of the flag. If the message is "these people belong here" then US flags make the point
100
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
Literally Republicans are accusing them of being un-American. That's the whole issue at hand here. Republicans asserting that these people don't belong here, they're not Americans, and they should be deported. Did you somehow miss all that??
200
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
Typical lol
000
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
It's very obvious what's happening. And very obvious that flying Mexican flags is counterproductive to the goal of the protests. Pull your head out of your ass
010
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
Here's a lesson. Fox/Republicans are framing immigrants and protesters as "others" who don't belong in America. If you want to play in to that framing, keep flying the Mexican flags. If you want to position them as people who want to be and deserve to be in America, fly American flags. Simple.
100
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
You clearly support the current messaging
000
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
Framing and messaging is crucial. Period. If your goal is to ensure that people not already on your side stay there, and you only want more ICE/police/National Guard violence, then keep up the good work. If your goal is to end the lawless abductions of immigrants, learn how to effectively message
100
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
If you can't see the importance of messaging, and how horribly the protesters are doing at it, then read a fucking book
100
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
Because your messaging sucks and if your actual goal is to end what ICE is doing, you're doing a horrible job of supporting your cause. Messaging is crucial.
210
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
Nazis effectively positioned Jewish ppl as "others" who didn't belong in Germany. Right now, Fox and R's are trying to position immigrants and protesters as "others" who don't belong **or even want to be in** US. Flying the Mexican flag helps Fox's message. Flying US flag helps immigrants message.
100
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
They're losing the messaging war. The result is going to be centrist Americans who are OK with what they're seeing. If these centrist Americans see the protesters as fellow Americans, as people who **want** to be here, then they'll be disgusted by the images of National Guard shooting them.
000
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
Right. And if your goal is to make sure centrist Americans see these people as Americans who belong here, you make sure they wave American flags. If you want Fox and Republicans to continue telling people these aren't Americans, they don't belong here, you tell them to keep waving Mexican flags.
200
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
Yes, of course it is. But the broader discussion is whether or not these people actually belong in America. Whether or not they should be deported. That's the reality of the situation. If you want people who aren't already on your side to see it your way, you need to message more effectively.
000
Chaunciliscious @chaunciliscious.bsky.social · 09/06/2025
I'm not just talking about politicians, I'm including regular people. Most of us suck at messaging and severely underestimate the importance. Case and point
