I ordered eight new airtight food canisters and have filled six of them. Not sure what to do with the last two yet and I don’t have any pretty labels, but this will work for now. I’m keeping the older canisters that aren’t airtight anymore and will see where I can repurpose them.
Six clear plastic food canisters on a white pantry shelf. The canisters are of different heights so all the labels can be read, and they’re arranged in two columns of three rows. The canisters contain flour, gluten-free oats, brown sugar, white rice, sugar, and powdered sugar.

What do you mean I got NINE MORE APPLES??? (Thank goodness I used seven in a recipe yesterday!)
A heap of produce on a black and white speckled counter: a butternut squash, a white acorn squash, an ear of corn, four potatoes, two tomatoes, two gold tomatoes, a yellow onion, two peppers, and NINE APPLES (in three different varieties, I think).

Got partway through making an apple crisp (to freeze because I had 9 apples on hand and am getting yet more tomorrow) and that somehow turned into me going through my entire baking/spice shelf and tossing expired items. But now I have a better handle on what I’ve actually got left, so progress!
A single, wide shelf in a pantry. It is far less cluttered than before thanks to roughly a third of the contents being purged. There are some goods for baking in clear plastic containers, a middle box with random things in bags (and appliance booklets), and then a two-tiered section of ramen, spices, and onions/garlic.

I took about twenty minutes today to remove things that have a designated spot elsewhere, most notably the canning supplies and a vase. I hardly ever use the various water bottles, so those got moved to an out-of-the-way cupboard. That let me group some of the food better:
The same pantry as before. The second shelf from the bottom is noticeably tidier, allowing better access to the various bags/wraps/foils/etc. some food has been moved around on other shelves into loose groupings that make more sense.

Now that my freezer is more functional, it’s time for me to tackle my pantry. It is a very generous size for a small household, but that means it’s become something of a convenient dumping ground for general household items:
The door to a small pantry is open to show five shelves filled with an assortment of food and kitchen-related items. It’s pretty chaotic and isn’t well-categorized.

Well, the four containers I bought may not have fixed me BUT I may now actually be able to find things in my freezer without emptying half of it (before vs after):
A top down view into a pull-out freezer drawer. It is stuffed to the brim of frozen food in labeled bags, and the vibes are completely Chaotic™️. A top down view of the same pull out freezer drawer, only now the three visible containers have provided organization categories and things may actually be findable.

I still have last week’s watermelon. But hey! I’ve got a little decorative pumpkin for my dining table now, which is very cute.

I was out of town last weekend and returned with a head cold, so I’m kind of drowning in produce.
Top down view of a bunch of produce on a black and white speckled kitchen counter: a mini watermelon, an ear of corn, a yellow squash, a zucchini, a pepper, six purple potatoes, five tomatillos, a red onion, a yellow tomato, five apples, a clamshell of raspberries, and a plum.

I genuinely don’t know how to use most of these peppers, so I’ve been dicing and freezing them and adding them to a “Spicy peppers!!” freezer bag to use a tiny bit of whenever a recipe calls for jalapeños.
A heap of produce upon a black-and-white speckled kitchen countertop: a cantaloupe, an ear of corn, a bag of green beans, a cucumber, an assortment of peppers, three golden tomatoes, a clamshell of raspberries, a plum, five apples, an onion, and one ivory and one green bell pepper.

And today’s haul is a big one! I’ve got all sorts of fruit this week:

I made a farmstyle ratatouille and froze it in half cup servings because I’ve got to preserve some of this somehow. Today I used that, some pasta sauce, and fresh pasta to make a very filling lunch:

Top down view today because nothing stacked very well:
Produce on a kitchen counter, roughly in a D shape: an eggplant, two pears, two tomatoes, four apples, two nectarines, two ivory bell peppers, one green bell pepper, o e ear of corn, a clamshell of blackberries, an onion, and a head of garlic.

Oh, whoops forgot to post this week’s haul earlier. I’ll definitely need to roast a bunch of veggies this weekend.
A produce haul arranged on a black and white speckled kitchen countertop: an ear of corn, a zucchini, a head of broccoli, a bell pepper, two peaches, a heap of Brussels sprouts, a nectarine, a tomato, three snacking peppers, a pear, an onion, and a cantaloupe.

Not a ton of pictures this week because the week has been aggressively MEH, but I did make lavender blackberry lemonade; consumed the peaches, apple, and corn; froze the bell pepper in strips; and roasted the cauliflower and tomatillos for later use.
A very tall glass of lavender blackberry lemonade, featuring club soda that makes it all bubbly and visible berry pieces floating in it. There is also a metal straw.

Another week, another batch of produce. I think I’m going to have to try making salsa verde this weekend.
Produce heaped upon a kitchen counter: a cantaloupe, an ear of corn, a head of cauliflower, a green bell pepper, several tomatillos, a pear, two peaches, an apple, and a clamshell of blueberries.

I turned most of the zucchini into biscuits. These are very good with either chicken noodle soup or served with a salad.

First time making refrigerator pickles! We’ll see how they turn out in a couple of days. Even if I don’t like them, they took little enough effort that I won’t mind sacrificing them for an experiment.

Another week, another box of fruits and veggies! I’ll use my lunch break tomorrow to go grocery shopping so I can use all of this.
A spread of fruits and vegetables on a black and white speckled kitchen countertop: an ear of corn, sugar snap peas, green beans, a small clamshell each of blueberries and blackberries, a peach, two donut peaches, two plums, a zucchini, two squashes, a red onion, two tomatoes, and a head of broccoli.

I used up all of my corn and over half of my green beans on a very simple side dish that pairs nicely with mashed potatoes and rotisserie chicken.

At this point IDK if I can even keep up with a single-person box. I’d better figure out how to pickle, fast. 😬 (I still haven’t used the previous week’s corn or green beans!)
Two cobs of corn, a cantaloupe, a water melon, a bag of green beans, a yellow squash, two patty pans, three peaches, one donut peach, and an entire HEAP of pickling cucumbers, artistically arranged upon a kitchen counter. Not pictured: the donut peach I already ate.

Okay, so, turns out if you smother the apricots in butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon, and then roast them for a bit, they are SO GOOD with a scoop of ice cream.

Week three! Unfortunately, I am learning that I am NOT a fan of apricots. 😩 They’re fine, I guess. Just not my thing.

This week was chaos. I did manage to consume most of the produce in pretty much the same ways as last week, though I did roast the zucchini and squash instead this time:

Box number two is pretty similar to the previous week, though there are some new items here. Gotta make a plan to use it all this time.
Picture of produce piled up on a kitchen counter. We have a bunch of green onions, one head of lettuce, a mix of skinny orange and purple carrots, two yellow squash, two zucchini, one ear of corn, 8 apricots, two good handfuls of sugar snap peas, and about half a pound of cherries.

Thank you to everyone who suggested I roast the radishes—they turned out quite nice!

Made a casserole-type dish tonight with the zucchini and yellow squash. I had all the ingredients on hand except for the heavy cream, which I darted out to grab on my lunch break.

Okay, so I’m using half the head of red lettuce tonight to make a side salad to go with my lasagna. Otherwise, I’ve located a recipe that will use up my zucchini and squash that I’ll make tomorrow.
A generous sized salad of red lettuce, Caesar dressing, bacon bits, croutons, and shredded Parmesan in a light brown bowl. Lurking behind it is a still-bubbling single portion of lasagna in a red casserole dish and carefully placed on a gray pot holder because it just came out of the oven.

It has been a while since I last made these lemon poppyseed scones, but they are just as tasty as I remember.

Chapter 4 of For Some Desperate Glory is up! In which Dick and Tim continue their investigation into Bruce's kidnapping: Ch 4: archiveofourown.org/works/545242... Start from the beginning: archiveofourown.org/works/545242...
Moodboard for For Some Desperate Glory, a Batman fanfic by chasingfigments. The moodboard is styled as five photos clustered in a section of a black chalkboard. Starting from the top right and going clockwise to end at the center, the photos are as follows: 1) a building engulfed in flames, 2) a graveyard, with two prominent headstones, one with RIP on it and the other with a cross, 3) a close up of a Rolex watch face, 4) the inside of a derelict, graffitied building, with debris and bits of the building scattered around, 5) a close up of two SD cards with a fine chain-link mesh behind them, and 6) a black and white photo of a large city's skyline. For Some Desperate Glory by chasingfigments

The ringtone lets Bruce know before he’s even pulled the phone out that someone in his family is calling from a civilian line, which—given the current hour—should mean Alfred is calling. The caller ID displays Tim Drake instead.

Threads of concern and apprehension coil through him, but it’s possible—something prevented Tim from heading out with Dick tonight. If he were sick, or injured, Alfred would have let him know already, but it’s possible something came up with school or his friends. Dick would be just fine handling a solo night in the Batman suit.

There’s no proof that anything is wrong yet. Bruce takes a steady breath and accepts the call. “Hey, Tim,” he says as he unlocks his car. “I’m—”

“Sorry,” a mechanized voice cuts in, and Bruce goes still, fingers curled around the driver door handle. “Tim’s not available right now.”

    --

Or: Instead of taking over the drug trade, Red Hood kidnaps Bruce Wayne.

My adventure was the farmers market! In addition to the food below, I bought a breakfast burrito and got my kitchen knives sharpened. Then I donated blood and came home and crashed for four hours because I am too old to have a productive day after losing 500ml/1 pint. 😂

Alas, the underripe peaches were not saved by dousing them in sugar. I have, however, ended up with a sliiightly fruity, slightly citrus-y simple syrup which is fine. It IS vividly orange at least! Good enough to mix a drink up with a shot of vodka and some club soda.

Decided to try a new-to-me recipe today. My kitchen is now a mess, but I’ve got two dozen zucchini biscuits now. They pair quite nicely with the chicken soup I’ve frozen, and now to test if they freeze just as well (the recipe claims they do).

Continuing my tradition of brunch before the theater! Went to the bakery I normally get a coffee and a pastry from on days I’m in the office (didn’t get downtown early enough to go to the bar for their brunch, once you factor in walking distance). Got a bar seat instead of waiting for a table.
