Got our almost-2-yo a betta fish. He’s very excited about Fishy. Tried to explain the concept of a name (his name is ___, dog’s name is Arlo, etc). Seemed fine. What is fish’s name? He tries. “Rock?” (Fish likes/has rocks/gravel). We affirm, but he refuses to validate the choice.
Silver-ish betta fish with red feathery fins in a tank with black background and gravel, a potted plant sits on a shelf nearby

In honor of my book coming out next week, I got some new professional photos taken and spiffed up my website. Hard to believe that the previous version, up since 2014, was more than 10 years old!!
Screenshot of homepage of Cassandra’s website with a photo of her holding a cup of tea and looking at the camera, and text describing her work.

My 1.5 yo child pointed at this photo in a coffeeshop and said, “mama!” So now I know what movie I’m watching next time I can stay awake

Wowza! Page proofs! The thing is typeset - it’s really happening?! This is technically my second book, but in a lot of ways that count, it is my first book… the book that developed out of my dissertation.
Page proof of the title page for an academic book, reading:

A bite of sorbet for your disaster-feed: Here’s a picture of Arlo, a very good boy with a really big stick.
Black and tan dog who is mostly golden retriever in shape, standing on a snowy forest path with a stick longer than his body. His tail plume and ear position look happy and alert.

Why don’t Subarus have cup holders that fit a nalgene? Don’t they know their audience?

Usually endurance sports help manage my anxiety, but in this case the night b4 I had a major panic abt generational trauma baggage & had to wake up my pregnant partner at midnight to process. I still managed to finish the race, so happy first Olympic distance Triathlon to me! #AcademicAtPlay
