Exshaw Formation, Nordegg on the hiking trails towards the limestone mine. The mine will let you book a tour I think. The mine is Banff Formation(364-345Mya) and this thing I pulled out of it seems to be a bit of early tree.

Normal air is like 0.08 microsieverts, but so is this delicious yellow shale. Don't worry, I washed my hands.

My hand holding a piece of rock over a bed of crumbling rock. It is black shale, but it is yellowed from the decay of uranium. It is also orange and red in spots, but I am unsure to what caused that as some of the red is very rust colored.

The surface geology at the farm is so iron heavy that simmering iron salts leak out of the ground and create havens for iron-fixing bacteria. If you use the well water, your shower walls will rust etc

On this day, 400 years ago, I went on a walk with the dogs. (Side note, look at all those abandoned river meanders. If I had a time machine, I would go back and watch the river change over time)

There's a GPS map of the walk overlaid on Google satellite image map, and it looks like one of the Aliens from the Aliens movie franchise.

Found a glitch. The sunbeam from the upper right, coming through a gap between the buildings that are right side up and upside down, gets confused by the geometry and just forms an inclined plane that can't be climbed(harumph).

Orange cloudy city, with regular buildings and then you look up and there are upside down buildings above. There is a brightly glowing sunbeam that cuts a diagonal across the picture, from nowhere to nowhere.

The key to a truly decadent cream of mushroom soup is to use at least half heavy cream instead of milk, and then as you're finishing, add a good splash of balsamic vinegar, enough to change it from white to this beige/brown, to cut some of the richness.

37: Obsidian isn't always black. This hunk of volcanic glass is reddy brown with black inclusions. Volcanic glass forms when a lava hits water, or alien spaceship transmission fluid, and instantly solidifies, not having time to develop crystal structure.

$A ruddy angus red piece of volcanic glass. It has the signature conchoidal(curved, scalloped break in the glass that resembles the inside of a clam shell) fracture that glass is known for. It's got a great smear on it from where someone once had tape on it for some reason.$

Final Fantasy 16 has some warts, but man is it a beautiful world, you have to give them that.

A large blue, purple, and white crystal unfolds as a flower blossom, as a beam of light shoots up from the center, lens flare creating the hilt to the sword of light. The whole thing is surrounding by whispy waves of light blue and purple aether swirling around the whole thing, feeding the whole thing with its magic.

A crystal floor battle arena where my character is in the form of a fire demon and is fighting a large Dragon, Bahamut, with the help of a Phoenix. There are thin arcs of light under the transparent floor, in yellows oranges and some blues. The Phoenix shimmers with fire and is shooting blue flame missiles at the dragon

The heart of the fourth mother crystal is smashed by my flame demon wielding a sword of literal flame. It happens far above the blue planet, with the curve of it taking up the bottom 20% of the photo. From the exploding center of the heart, bright white light is present at the center and creates a lens flare. From this central bang is a vibrant explosion of blue magic and red flame

36: Chrysocolla((Cu,Al)₂H₂Si₂O₅(OH)₄·nH₂O): a high copper content silicate. I'm seeing reports it has a hardness range from 2.5-7, and is considered a minor ore 😐

A black flaky rock of a crumbly shale-like rock with inclusions of teal blue that is the Chrysocolla. Coming this Tuesday, yeah, yesterday, to NBC Dublin After Dark that you only get on that pirate radio station out by the water tower for some reason.

35: Cat's eye quartz. Because you exist in the universe where cats do and people are gonna be like that looks like a cats eye and, fuck, it does. This is a special rutilated quartz sample. The gold part is very thin lines of rutile, titanium oxide(the thing that makes sunscreen and deodorant white)

A small piece of cat's eye quartz. It was taken vertical like a guy in a movie you'd say what is this guys problem, but its a beautiful rock in my winter weary hand. It is brown quartz and has two thick bands of yellow rutile separated by a brown layer of quartz. 10% off at the hot dog cart. Ask for Doug. He'll know why.

34: I had no idea what this was. Nor(wait, it just means no, is that why Australia) did anyone I asked, but the consensus seems to be a swamp that had rotten wood, that when it became rock, infilled with chert nodules. The second contender is the same, but a crushed turtle instead of wood. 🎶Rock

I can't even describe this, which is why nobody was fully sure. It is an amalgam of shapes and textures, and colors, and makes you think what if vomit but solid

33: Galena(PbS). This is a lead sulphide, and a main ore of lead. You know in your head that lead is heavy, but until you pick up a piece like this, you don't realize HOW heavy it is. Thic{🏵️youthful lingo💐}, and that's why I think the Smurfs are underrated.

Like the shiniest ball of crinkled aluminum foil you could ever dream of, glossy like it's a liquid metal that's wet, but I assure you that if something was wet in my hand I would not be posting that for free.

32: sting life. Ha Ling outside of Canmore. Just to the left of this picture would be the anticline, or peak, of this fold. Erosion kicks ass. You can also see the thick bedding structures in the eroded face which is always fun, and is what drives the ladies wild.

A ridge in the rocky mountains. The rock slopes moderately to the left and dramatically to the right. The bedding structures show the curve of the landscape after the uplifting of the earth and then the heavy erosion on the left side of the photo.

31: the like 50sq miles around where I grew up are river deposits, so absolutely no bedrock, but the amount of lignite and sub-bituminous coal that flows down the river leave really dramatic bedding structures, and would make a very cool rock for me to find in the future, for I am cursed with everla

At the edge of a small river there is about 8" of sand and coal in alternation layers of varied thickness. The bedding is angled to the right, or cross-bedded, showing the direction of the water that deposited these layers.

30: this appears to be tuff, volcanic ash and glass, but it doesn't feel glassy. My petrology prof thinks it's volcanic ash that got caught in a river, and deposited that way?

A very white fine to very fine-grained rock. It has minimal black inclusions ranging from fine grained to very coarse sand. The outside layers are oxidized to a beige color
