Could gum disease affect dementia risk? 🦷🧠 A review found harmful oral bacteria appear more often in people with Alzheimer’s, while protective bacteria decline. Oral health may matter more for brain health than we realised. 🎥 youtu.be/fF2eQ8vTi8k #Dementia #BrainHealth

I do not believe in the existence of a failed experiment [1]. I do believe that everyone is gifted [2]. So, experiment hard with what interests you most [3], & you will be rewarded, for the process is its own reward [4]. [1] Buckminster Fuller [2] Marie Curie [3] Richard Feynman [4] Amelia Earhart

Most recent puzzle I worked on came with a missing piece. Or an additional piece. Either perspective works. Felt rather irked. Put it aside for a couple days. A few days later, I took matters into my own hands and filled the (once) empty hole with some decor leaves. I like it better my way.

Sweet! Likewise, I'm especially pumped for Sarah's 1-230 talk later today😉

Hands down my favourite slide and biggest takeaway from @steamtraen.eu's talk, made possible by @samwestwood.bsky.social and Nick's 2-hour sacrifice albeit on holiday. #grim #sprite on #rstats

since change is the only constant in life, wouldn't embracing change = embracing life?

Trust your body and honour your flow. If there's objectively nothing much/else within your control, remind yourself that you are safe and whole, come what may. Your truth will prevail; it's solely a matter of time :)

- Kafka on the Shore (Haruki Murakami) --> fiction, lots of music refs (from Radiohead to Led Zeppelin to The Beatles to Beethoven...) - Breaking Through: My Life in Science (Katalin Karikó) --> science, non-fiction - The Secret History (Donna Tartt) --> fiction, conundrums re ethics/morality

Good morning! Saw your reply yesterday shortly before bed, was rooting for you in my heart. Hope all went well. In any case, it's a new day!

Yes! I can't help but see their inherent existence through schema lens (Young's schema theory). Extending from what you said: - Helena = punitive parent + detached protector - Helly = impulsive, angry, and vulnerable child ∴ Severance = schema-rupture; severed self = cognitive dissonance in self

Thank you for your honest and informative insight. And for reminding me that hope does still exist. Re discord suggestion, are there any particular groups/servers to recommend? Or were you solely referring to private chats on discord?

Hahaha well by that logic, wouldn't they have already borrowed each other's things and mush them together before you did?😉

You have to believe that the sun will still shine no matter how dark the previous day, hour, minute, second, has been. Hold on to the truth - this universal truth. The day everything makes sense is the day you die; the days before that are the days wherein you live, cry, scream, fear, love - now.

Yeah, exactly! From personal experience, I can confidently say self-imposed "made-up" deadlines aren't as effective as externally-enforced/more legit/high-stake ones? I guess it's easier for me to break my deadlines/rules I've set for myself. Hope I'm not the only one lol!

You've just described my dream (less perceived stress at present moment) and worst nightmare (increased likelihood of procrastination) in 1 sentence. ∴ No thanks🥸

The gratitude you feel, day by day, is pure and genuine. My hope for you (and myself, and all my fellow researchers) is to stay true to your intrinsic, core values - wherein gratitude stems from - no matter the perceived trajectory of our unforeseen future; only the former is within our control. 🩵

Largely yes. Personally, disappointment ensues violation of realistic expectations. I dread it, but deep down, I know it's needed - to remind me I expected better because I'm capable of and deserved better. Feeling only anger isn't sustainable in the long run - that's how I burnt out previously.

Understandable. In a way then, would you see it as: every person has their own form of cancer to work with?

As one would expect - younger me would have forgotten about the questions I asked (and didn't ask, as I slowly and eventually learnt that there was no point doing so). To that, I say: - My memory's pretty damn good - I have an active Bluesky account - I live, breathe, love psychological research

Younger me was often told that I had to wait till I was 18, 21, 57 - or any other arbitrary age that deemed fit to whichever adult present in my childhood and adolescence - till I'd be able to understand things, especially wrt most questions I asked. Naturally (unfortunately), I often held back.

Oh! Thanks for clarifying. The issue was exactly that - it doesn't exist (yet) on CRAN - but I assumed the issue was re CRAN location. Looking forward to finally start learning with discovr materials and your videos. Thanks again!

Charmaine Ng @charmaineng.bsky.social · 10/02/2025
OH HI PROF ANDY! Charmaine here. I've been meaning to ask: I unsuccessfully tried downloading discovr on my laptop (Mac); I then played around using different CRANs (forgot which specifically) as well, to no avail. May I know if there's any way to troubleshoot? Thanks a lot :)
