Laut dem Technik-Magazin Fast Company wiegt das gesamte System weniger als eine Tonne und ist somit 90 Prozent leichter als eine vergleichbare bodengebundene Stahlturmturbine.

Die Effizienz des Systems basiert auf den physikalischen Gesetzmäßigkeiten der Windenergie. Wie Sawes-Technikchef Weng Hanke gegenüber Elektroniknet erläuterte, weht der Wind in 1.500 Metern Höhe etwa dreimal so schnell wie am Boden. Verdoppelt sich die Windgeschwindigkeit, so steigt die verfügbare Energie um das Achtfache. Bei dreifacher Geschwindigkeit sind es sogar 27-mal so viel Energie wie bei Bodenwind.

Sawes verspricht gegenüber traditionellen Windkraftanlagen erhebliche Einsparungen. Laut Firmenangaben sinkt der Materialverbrauch um 40 Prozent, während die Stromgestehungskosten ebenfalls um 30 Prozent zurückgehen, so Interesting Engineering.
