Charles T. Lee @charlestlee.bsky.social · 18/08/2026A student of mine wrote an honors thesis on burnout and self-care among student activists. One thing contemplative practices contribute to social justice and activism is the reminder that we can't wait for social structures to be fixed before attuning to our own healing and wellbeing. 000 0
Charles T. Lee @charlestlee.bsky.social · 12/08/2026Might nondual insights from non-Western thought such as these (post below) help us explore a more holistic understanding and horizon of power and politics? 000 0
Charles T. Lee @charlestlee.bsky.social · 12/08/2026Daoism and Chan (Zen) Buddhism have long approached worldly phenomena in nondualistic ways. Daoism conceives yin/yang, fortune/misfortune, or gain/loss as relational and interdependent, and Chan (Zen) Buddhism emphasizes the dharma gate of nonduality ("Not Two," or no fixed opposites). 000 0
Charles T. Lee @charlestlee.bsky.social · 07/08/2026I'm not suggesting a centrist "Third Way." My point is that nonbinary invites us to question whether familiar binary oppositions—such as reform/revolution, domination/subordination, or resistance/complicity—adequately capture the complexity of political life across Western and non-Western contexts. 110 0
Charles T. Lee @charlestlee.bsky.social · 06/08/2026My point isn't about the political commitments of transgender or nonbinary individuals. It's about how nonbinary, as a conceptual resource, can help us recognize and imagine both gender embodiments and political possibilities beyond familiar binary oppositions. 100 0
Charles T. Lee @charlestlee.bsky.social · 05/08/2026If nonbinary articulates a spacious possibility in the realm of gender, it likewise reveals a broad spectrum of political possibilities beyond familiar binary oppositions. 110 0
Charles T. Lee @charlestlee.bsky.social · 30/07/2026Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork in Southern California's Asian restaurant industry, the book develops the concept of elasticity as a political framework for rethinking citizenship, resistance, and democracy under multiracial neoliberalism. 000 0
