I'd bet money that a significant percentage of these people getting takeout from fine-dining restaurants are people like me who, for whatever reason, are still taking COVID precautions, including not dining indoors at restaurants. (I prefer to dine in at restaurants with outdoor seating, myself.)

I'd been politely asked to take a semester off, twice, so I ended up under the cutoff by like 2 credits, and had to fulfill the Gen Ed requirements (which were much more specific) even though I'd ALREADY fulfilled the Core requirements.

Not always. At one point when I was at UMass, the distribution requirements changed from "Core requirements" to "General Education requirements", and there was a cutoff for which set you had to fulfill depending on how many credits you'd earned. 1/2

Oh, I might have to read this. I recently reread Farmer Boy, the book about Almanzo Wilder growing up in northern NY, which was one of my favorite books as a kid. As a youngest child I had kind of identified w/Almanzo, but this time I was appalled both by the violence and the libertarian propaganda.

My father made me help him with yard work, but almost never did his own car repair (despite being entirely competent to do so) because his father made him help him with that when he was a kid. I told him when I grew up I'd do my own car repair and hire people for yard work. I was half right. :-)

I've had the same issue with my sister wrt my nephew, who is quite obviously autistic, but she has always refused to see it because her idea of autism is our brother, who is just barely able to live semi-independently. Though she also refuses to acknowledge that her other son is transgender.

I'm curious if you've heard of Angine de Poitrine. They do things like play a riff, loop it, then change time signatures and loop another riff on top of it. On this microtonal (24 frets to the octave instead of 12) dual-neck guitar/bass thing. Oh, and in bizarre costumes.

The first CD-ROM drives spun at the same speed as an audio CD. Since CDs can hold 75-ish minutes of audio (the length of Beethoven's 9th Symphony, which is not a coincidence), that's how long it took to read 650MB. So 24x is 24 times faster than that.

Clarification, please. Are you objecting to a) surgical masks, which are ineffective as protection, b) wearing them on the chin, likewise, or c) masking in general, which is still necessary for a lot of people (and a good idea in general because long COVID is still a thing)?
