NYC new mayor is a great writer. This is the best political speech I’ve read since Robert Kennedy’s 1966 speech at #UCT, where Mamdani’s dad once taught. Well worth a read. www.nytimes.com/2026/01/01/n...

Today I heard the best violinist I've heard since Izhak Perlman: Midori. The Boston Symphony Orchestra audience gave her a long standing ovation. The conductor was also a woman, Nodoka Okisawa, chief conductor of Kyoto Symphony Orchestra. www.midori-violin.com

Slow fall this year. Usually by now the trees are crazy reds, oranges, and yellow, breathtaking. But for the last three years climate change has denied us fall beauty. Mother Nature is justifiably annoyed.

Thank you @markjacob.bsky.social for this meme with a serious message.

Picture of a tower with multiple loudspeakers atop.
Caption: “DEAR AMERICANS WAITING FOR THE SIRENS TO GO OFF AND LOUDSPEAKERS TO ANNOUNCE THAT THE FASCIST OVERTHROW OF YOUR COUNTRY IS UNDERWAY, THERE WON’T BE ANY SIRENS OR LOUDSPEAKERS. IT’S HAPPENING NOW. GET YOUR ASSES IN GEAR BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE. SINCERELY, MARK JACOB.”

Black Sash individuals: in the mid-80s there was a wonderful translator in the Khotso House Sash office called Adelaide, I can’t remember her surname, can you? I need it for the book I am writing.

Finally back at work on my autobiography, not sure whether to call it Leaving - about the pain of leaving my birthplace of South Africa, or Skin, because race and hatred of racism has impacted my whole life.
