Charlie @chari.es · 25/06/2026me when the outside temperature finally drops below the inside temperature 000
Charlie @chari.es · 25/01/2026And they’ve done it! Sodebo have set a new round the world record, sailing 28,315nm at an average speed of 27.17kn in 40 days, 10 hours, 45 minutes and 50 seconds. #Sailing #TropheeJulesVerne 032
Charlie @chari.es · 24/01/2026A little over 500nm to go for Sodebo, a 26kn 4-hour average which - if they keep it up - will have them finishing in around 20 hours. Doesn’t look like we will get the record below 40 days, but still an incredible achievement if they make it. The sea state they’re dealing with is horrible. 000

Charlie @chari.es · 20/01/2026New Lanzarote to Antigua race record set by Baltic 111 Raven in this year’s RORC Transat. Record now sits at a little over 6 days 22 hours. Great first official race from the team, and proving the AC-style foiling concept can work offshore. 010
Charlie @chari.es · 11/01/2026Sodebo passed Cape Horn after 26 days, 4 hours and 46 minutes around 11 hours ahead of IDEC’s 2017 record. The picture in the South Atlantic doesn’t look too stable right now, so the passage back north might not be easy. 131
Charlie @chari.es · 25/08/2025Went sailing for the first time in ages yesterday and it was bloody delightful 030
Charlie @chari.es · 19/08/2025Seven years ago in Sicily prepping for the Palermo to Monte Carlo race. Wild race, so many frustrations, but a really decent team. I miss racing offshore. 053
Charlie @chari.es · 17/07/2025I don’t know how society hasn’t evolved past the need for estate agents. This listing has no floor plan, but they’ve created this absolute abomination? 130
Charlie @chari.es · 17/05/2025after a day or so of staring blankly at a formula for evaporation, I think I’ve managed to create a @home-assistant.io sensor to tell me how long it will take for laundry to dry outside 210
Charlie @chari.es · 15/04/2025The vet told this little guy his weight is “above ideal” today, and he’s not best pleased. 040
Charlie @chari.es · 10/03/2025“It’s highly unusual, I can assure you that”. Also, they’re very much desperately searching for literally anything to post - suggesting low vis may have played a part in a collision between two SOLAS compliant vessels… 011
Charlie @chari.es · 04/03/2025the americans are asleep, we can finally Mr Blobby post without fear of repercussions 000
Charlie @chari.es · 27/12/2024Barring any damage, I think Dalin and Richomme will be battling it out to the finish. Both very deserving to be where they are - it’s going to be an exciting climb north. 130
Charlie @chari.es · 19/12/2024Charlie Dalin and co are now ahead of the race record set by Armel Le Cléac’h in 2017, and it looks like they’re set to extend that over the coming days. They’re also fast approaching Point Nemo - the point furthest from land on the planet. Closer to the ISS than other humans when they pass it! 121
Charlie @chari.es · 17/12/2024We’re back on with the Jules Verne Trophy attempts! SVR Lazartigue is currently code green and Sodebo are code orange. Time to be glued to the tracker once again… 100
Charlie @chari.es · 12/12/2024Great picture from Éric Bellion smashing into a wave. I really like these Raison designs - to be honest, the outward canted boards were beautiful on every IMOCA. 010
Charlie @chari.es · 08/12/2024Yeah that’s definitely not ideal. Glad there’s no wider damage - Sébastien Simon has not had the best of luck with foils, breaking two sets with his Juan K and now this. 140
Charlie @chari.es · 08/12/2024It’s been blowy out there. Good picture her from Justine Mettraux showing her storm jib up and furled. Interesting to see a sail bag on deck and forward - that generation of foilers had quite a bow up tendency under foils. I wonder if Charal or Justine had a forward ballast tank fitted? 010
Charlie @chari.es · 07/12/2024It’s getting windy down in the South West - peak of 71.3 knots at the moment! 000
Charlie @chari.es · 03/12/2024Antoine Cornic on the hunt for some big weather. Interesting call, but with an older hull perhaps some big surfs will do him some good 350
Charlie @chari.es · 02/12/2024And here comes the big break for the leading trio - if they manage to hold onto the pressure they are in, we will see the gap to fourth grow and grow. Front three averaging above 20kts for the last 24hr while the six behind at most 15kts #VendeeGlobe 110
Charlie @chari.es · 01/12/2024SVR Lazartigue currently sits 177nm behind IDEC’s record. Averaging 29.4kts for the last four hours, slightly off Sodebo’s 30.5 - though SVR should move into the building breeze. The picture for the rest of their North Atlantic descent looks perfect. I expect some high averages equator record. 130
Charlie @chari.es · 01/12/2024The leading pack has gybed and Yoann Richomme has cemented his lead a little more, stretching out nearly 9nm from Dalin. They will keep gybing to stay with the pressure system they’ve hooked into - the boats are fast enough now that they usually move ahead of the system, being spat into light airs. 350
Charlie @chari.es · 30/11/2024Both teams have set off for this year's Trophée Jules Verne attempts. Sodebo a number of hours before SVR Lazartigue did, hence the split. SVR averaging 4.5kts more than Sodebo over the last few hours, but Sodebo will get through the low first and tack south into the faster conditions first. 010
Charlie @chari.es · 29/11/2024But, as with this time of year, they’re not the only boat making an attempt. Thomas Coville and his Sodebo are currently in code orange. 100
Charlie @chari.es · 29/11/2024The crew of SVR Lazartigue have just gone to code green, meaning they will be heading to the course start to make an attempt at the Jules Verne Trophy. The record currently stands at 40 days, 23 hours, 30 minutes and 30s and was set by IDEC in 2017. 120
Charlie @chari.es · 27/11/2024I’ve had a little play with the new Vendée Globe API to work out if we will see the reference time from the Equator to the Cape of Good Hope fall after the rapid trip across the South Atlantic. 130
Charlie @chari.es · 27/11/2024So there’s the break - Benjamin Dutreux on the old Hugo Boss may just be able to hang onto the system propelling the leaders forward. Romain Attanasio and co are just beyond its grasp. Gaps will start to build from here and we will see the front runners a system ahead of this group. 030
Charlie @chari.es · 27/11/2024Boris Herrmann has a pretty good cockpit layout tbh. Can definitely see how it works for crewed and solo, and there’s a decent amount of light. Considerably less pokey and dark than Hublot is. Just a shame it’s hideous from the outside! 130
Charlie @chari.es · 24/11/2024Look at the previous Vendée Globe editions, we’re about where we’d expect for retirements at this stage - obviously discounting 2012, which was a wild one to say the least. 010
Charlie @chari.es · 23/11/2024This is a good picture from Sèbastien Simon, sailing with J2 and J3 by the looks of it. J3 design is particularly interesting - and something we are seeing more in the fleet - maximising the area in the foot while maintaining a higher clew. 020
