Sadly, I haven't been out that far since June. My last state park was Elephant Butte. Once this move is over, I'm headed out again, hopefully to Nevada and then back east again.

Yeah, you can't optimize for both off-road performance and highway range. Even putting LTX tires on my Bolt EUV took 80 MPH range down to like 160-180 miles.

Even Barry Goldwater saw where it was headed.
Text reads: Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them.

Trump and his minions seem to be doing everything one would do if they wanted the US to lose a future war to China. Depleting missiles in a pointless Iran War, not maintaining military assets, and now F-35 parts have been lost to China.

We have almost the same truck! Mine's the 171 kWh with the 18" wheels (basic LT without air suspension or midgate). I have a 27' InTech OVR Navigate. Did a 9000 mile trip this summer with no problems. Getting .8 to .9 miles/kWh.

A fairly typical sunset at Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument, but sped up to all happen in about 10 seconds. Camping near the foot of the mountains is free for up to two weeks. Spring and fall are the best times, but winter is pretty nice, too. Avoid April-Mid September.

Yeah, I started out with a little cargo trailer with a slide out kitchen that I pulled with my Bolt. Then, I started pulling my 5500 lb trailer with the Silverado EV (we used to pull it with the Suburban). Now, we've upgraded to a nicer trailer that's about 7000 loaded.

What makes this a great radar site also makes it a great place for expansive views. The radar can see the deserts around southern New Mexico and far west Texas and monitor for low flying smugglers. From up here, you can see Deming, El Paso and the Franklin Mtns, and miles and miles of desert.

It turns out that the little ball on the mountain isn't little at all. It's a fairly large radar housing! Blue Mesa/Magdalena Peak used to be the site of a telescope, but it was replaced by a federal radar site in the 90s.

Looking closer at the sunset, you can see Blue Mesa (aka Mesa Azul or Magdalena Peak) better. On the top, if you look carefully, you can see a little ball-shaped object. Does anyone want to guess at what it is?

Today's story from Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument starts after sunset. We got a very amazing "Arizona Effect" (like the state flag) as parts of the light were cut off by distant mountain peaks. To the right, you can see Blue Mesa, the highest point in the Las Uvas range.
An orange sunset in the dying twilight with the silhouettes of local mountain peaks. The light in the sunset is missing in places, making lines that cut across the orange and yellow.
