You can now pick a World Codex collection in RPG Workshop before you generate. New content you create there goes into that collection automatically. Use a separate collection for each setting, even under the same rules system.

A safe-looking village is the best ambush I know. Players drop their guard at woodsmoke and moss. ChooseGoos70 built Oakhollow, and Sylas Rot-Hearted Thorne in the same session. Bleached bone skin. Indigo veins. What is the friendliest place your party should never have trusted?

Community NPC by Monk41150. Kethur the Moss-Grafted. Nearly seven feet. Skin the colour of a bruised plum. Living moss has taken root in it. He's a Swarmkeeper Ranger. The connection to the natural world is working as intended. His character sheet does not say what the moss is carrying.

A monster that began as a mistake gives your players a clue to find. Cleric40226 built three on CharGen. A Lich-King raised this wall to stop his apprentices escaping. Necromancers took a skeleton from a living subject. Transmuters chased immortality. Which villain in your game began as a mistake?

A port the Crown abandoned makes a good home base. Nobody runs it, so your players can. Bard41066 built one on CharGen. Port Driftwood sits empty in the humidity. Off its coast is Blight-Anchor, three dozen ships lashed into one floating city. Where does your party keep its base?

I once handed a player a wizard's spellbook as treasure, then realised I had not decided what was in it. The table waited while I searched old notes. I tested six D&D spellbook generators after that. They do different jobs. Some roll a random list, some sort official spells, some write a full prop.

Mid-fight, you need a monster's hit points fast. The new monster and NPC pages in CharGen have an "At a glance" panel. It keeps hit points and spell slots in view. You can also roll attacks and damage straight from the page.

A black market stops being a shop list the moment you gate it on who vouches for you instead of what you can pay. The shopping trip becomes a social encounter, and nobody buys anything on the first visit. #dnd5e #ttrpg

A map earns its place when it changes a decision. Otherwise describe the room and move on. Druid21078's Adytum of Fumes earns it. The Pythia's prophecies were toxic gas rising through the bedrock, so every corridor is a save. Built in one prompt: char-gen.com

Describe an NPC as thickset and someone at my table asks if he's armed. Strength reads as threat before he says a word, even when I only wanted him to point them down the road. How do you make a strong NPC read as harmless?

Last Friday my players left the planned road and followed a lantern into a flooded marsh. I had a map, three NPCs, and no reason for the lantern to exist. So I tested seven D&D quest generators on one brief: a missing lighthouse keeper, a light that points inland, and a choice at the end.

My D&D folder had a pencil map, three screenshots of a character, and a note that said "make this look like a storybook". Three tools, three settings, three costs. CharGen now has one Workflows tab: over 20 guided jobs. Pick the outcome, see the cost, move the result to the next step.

The hard part of a twenty-room dungeon is keying it. I give every room one reason a player would stop and touch something. If a room has none, I cut it. Twelve good rooms run better than twenty thin ones. Ranger36467's Sky-Piercer Bastion, built in one session. Yours: char-gen.com

D&D Beyond has no homebrew class builder. Their own help page says so: "No Homebrew Classes". You can homebrew a monster, a spell, a species. Not a full class. A class needs 20 levels that hold together: hit die, proficiencies, a resource pool, features that scale with the table.

Here's how I used the new class generator this week. A player wanted a witch hunter class that doesn't exist in 5e. I typed in the concept. Out came a level 1 to 20 progression plus subclass ideas. Ten minutes, not a weekend. The Roleplay tab gave it hooks and flaws I hadn't thought of.

The test I use for a playable backstory: delete it and see if anything at the table changes. No NPC to bring back, no debt, no grudge, no object in play means it's flavour text, not a hook. Everything else is set dressing. Which of your PCs would survive that cut?
