Sharing a good summary since we chaplains are in the news again with the Linsday Clancy trial. 🩺 This is also your reminder that chaplains are mental health providers, with a very specific focus. 🛟 We occupy a complicated space, with lots of clinical knowledge and training. 🧠 Because we care. ⚓️
Chaplain here Re the Lindsav Clancv trial chaplain testimony. What we do:
1. We chart our interventions. We aren't therapists. All medical documentation is legal documentation.
2. As a chaplain she was called into address Lindsay's spirit ual and existential needs. 1/2

3. As chaplains we provide non-judgemental care for: patients, families, and staff equally. It's a maior part of our training. ethics. anc professional competencies. It's also verv hard. We work to prevent unnecessary death ana suffering.

Right. The article I gave you was from two years ago. You are treating it like it is current news. What has happened since? What did Biden win for them afterwards and in the last days of his presidency? Do you know? bsky.app/profile/chap...
Amy McBeth, a BNSF spokeswoman, said: “We now have agreements with eight of our 12 unions providing for paid sick days. Discussions are ongoing with the remaining four unions, including BMWE (Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees), and it is our intention to ultimately have paid sick day agreements in place covering our entire scheduled workforce.”

Ron Kaminkow, a locomotive engineer and organizer at the activist group, Railroad Workers United, applauded the progress on paid sick days, but added: “It’s a little disingenuous for the railroads to suddenly make nice.” He said they eased up on paid sick days because “the American people learned about their massive stock buybacks, their budget cuts and the staffing cuts that probably played into the train wreck in East Palestine [Ohio], which badly hurt their image.”

...chance that is about to change. Maybe tonight! ⚓️ Because in S2E1...he mentioned there is a HOSPITAL CHAPLAIN!!! If you've been following me for a while, here or there, you know how much this means. I am so thankful and cannot wait to see. Fair warning, they won't be Christian, which is great!

This is what I was trying to respond to right when they shut down replies. I've already seen firsthand the damage people putting difficult diagnoses into LLMs can do. It is horrific and ramps up the anxiety, let alone people use it to avoid appointments and facts. #medsky what stories do you have?
Samadams: there is a pretty big difference between inevitable human mistakes and an app that tries to gaslight you into believing the demolition of the East Wing never happened

Anildash: Sure. There’s also something reasonable in people finding value in an app where they can put in a medical report they don’t understand and get back a reasonably accurate plain English explanation that will take as much time as they want to explain it, without ever condescending or body shaming.

It wasn't until I traveled to Liberty Island to the south of Manhattan that I realized that Lady Liberty is not standing still as a beacon stuck in one place. She is moving forward, lighting our way through the darkness with liberty.

Andor has been talked about a lot lately, and so I wanted to say something loudly and clearly: Rogue One is the second worst Star Wars movie, and it has caused innumerable damage to both Star Wars and attracting the worst fans. This exchange hits the nail on the head. Vader makes bad puns. 1/2
Three skeets:
1. the most notable change is the
complete cutting of that scene
between Krennic and Darth Vader.
You know, the unnecessary one
that sucked and killed the movie's
momentum? yeah that's gone now

2. they also cut the "Darth Vader
murdering Rebels" scene at the
end of R1 and the Leia appearance
which I think is a mistake, but that's
me

3. That scene would have worked so
well without the earlier appearance
by Vader -- just imagine him
showing up out of nowhere, in full
slaughter mode, the house would
have exploded

Please don't do this. Sharing Tweets is one thing. Sharing fascist memes to shit on liberals or democrats is shitty and helps no one. Everyone is scared. Turning on each other is worse than useless. Let people protest. They blocked me for calling out this circular firing squad. Bitterness won.

Fine. It took this prompting for me to make a Letterbox account, but here is mine. Ironically, it was the artistry and storytelling of The Last Jedi that turned me around on Return of the Jedi. I think it goes deeper and harder than Empire, especially at the end.

This is the kind of bullshit that infuriates me. This is not only a lie but rewrites history in a way that ignores the intense fight of the time and the reality that Manchin and Sinema created an untenable reality. Biden is responsible for a LOT, but this kind of bullshit does not help us.
In this piece, we note that in addition to presiding over a staggering number of deaths and millions of long COVID cases, Biden and the Democrats allowed relief programs people were relying on to expire without much of a fight—right as inflation was setting in and the Fed was hiking interest rates.

I saw a really good question earlier about grieving process and Acceptance around the election. Their question was whether acceptance, as described by Elisabeth Kubler-Ross meant letting go of our desire for a different or better future. Short answer, no. But I wanted to offer a quick thread. 1/x

Acceptance describes recognizing the reality of a difficult diagnosis while no longer protesting or struggling against it. Patients may focus on enjoying the time they have left and reflecting on their memories. They may begin to prepare for death practically by planning their funeral or helping to provide financially or emotionally for their loved ones. It is often portrayed as the last of Kubler-Ross's stages and a sort of goal of the dying or grieving process. While caregivers and providers may find this stage less emotionally taxing, it is important to remember that it is not inherently more healthy than the other stages. As with denial, anger, bargaining, and depression, understanding the stages has less to do with promoting a fixed progression and more to do with anticipating patients' experiences to allow more empathy and support for whatever they go through.

A picture of a WWII place to demonstrate Suvivor Bias. It has red dots noting where planes, that returned, had damage. The mistake they made was assuming that they should add armor to where the hits were, instead of noting the gaps where a plane could not withstand a strike and stay airborne.

A common mistake today invoked when people say "but people survived x horrible thing!"

This really works me up with the hypocrisy and doublespeak. Karla made an entire thread calling Kevin Kruse out for 'not understanding Latiné voters' when he noted their belief Trump is talking about other "bad" immigrants to deport. Not them. When I point out them saying exactly this? Blocks me.
Post from @karlaliliana.bsky.social responding to data that shows Latiné respondents, some born in the USA, some not, saying that Trump "Isn't talking about them." :

context with the right wing buying up
Spanish language radio stations, spreading massive disinformation on WhatsApp, Fox News choosing to do hour long Spanish broadcasts, and all of it going uncontested.

My response: This kind of reporting shows that they really are not aware of the threat.
Quoted post: "It was made two months ago, just after Biden stepped down. That video is perfectly conscious of the threat and asks folks to vote even if they are unhappy with the status quo. Which makes a lot of people check out of the entire process"

From what I can tell in this article, nothing here is being done based on Biden's whims. I apologize, I might have missed it. Can you point out where that is clear?
Federal officials suspended the parole program for the four countries for several weeks this year amid concerns that some U.S. sponsors, who must apply to bring migrants to the United States, were committing fraud. Officials restarted the program in August after saying they had expanded safeguards.

Angela Kelley, a senior adviser to the American Immigration Lawyers Association, said in an interview Friday that parole was a “bridge” to the United States, and Friday’s announcement was a reminder that it is not permanent.

“It’s not shutting down the program,” she said. “It’s putting them on notice that, ‘Hey, you should get that asylum

Please, I would encourage you to read your article again and reflect on what it is saying. You posted this article, and it is full of good information. Biden has done the opposite of Trump, he has used the power of the President to help many people. These people in question have gotten helped.
The program will continue to admit up to 30,000 new applicants each month, officials said.

Parole is a federal authority created in 1952 to allow the executive branch to admit people on an emergency basis who aren’t eligible to come to the United States. Biden has ignited political divisions by using that power more expansively than any other president.

The announcement caused a political maelstrom Friday as Republicans slammed the Biden administration for making it appear as though it was cracking down on immigration weeks before Vice President Kamala Harris is to face off against former president

This is neither an accurate description of the program nor the article you just posted. This is false information. Trump is promising to strip anyone he wants of status and concentration camps to carry out his mass deportations. Biden is closing down a program that helped people get other status.
"This two year period was intended to enable individuals to seek humanitarian relief or other immigration benefits for which they may be eligible, and to work and contribute to the United States," the Department of Homeland Security said in a statement.

Anyone qho has not applied for asylum or another status "will need to depart the United States prior to the expiration of their authorized parole period or may be placed in removal proceedings after the period of parole expires," the statement said.

An official familiar with the program said it is likely only a small number of people are..."

True, happy is a different thing, in the third article I sent you. He did, in fact, get them everything they asked for. It was in the first article and in subsequent reporting.
On deadline day, the parties reached an agreement on an updated contract that included the biggest wage increases in 47 years. Over the next several weeks, while acknowledging that the agreement was less than perfect, the IBEW and several of its fellow coalition unions voted to ratify the agreement. A handful of others, however, did not, instead threatening a December freight rail strike.

Biden, citing the potential economic impact of a national freight rail strike during the winter holidays, on Nov. 28 called on Congress to impose the emergency board’s agreement.

Since then, several other railroad-related unions have also seen success in negotiating for similar sick-day benefits. These 12 unions represent more than 105,000 railroad workers.

“Biden deserves a lot of the credit for achieving this goal for us,” Russo said. “He and his team continued to work behind the scenes to get all of rail labor a fair agreement for paid sick leave.”

Russo said talks are continuing toward reachin

Christians, please don't do this. Please don't pick a fight with Jewish people about antisemitism, even if your point is "the true antisemitism comes from Christians, who colonized the world." The moment we tell anybody else about other cultures or religions, we are in the wrong. Especially Jews.
Chaplain John tries to get a Christian to see the harm they are causing Jewish people.

Chaplain John says: Again I ask, why is it so important for you to prove that antisemitism exists when you have no evidence of it? What would it mean if you are wrong here?

They respond: I already muted this and you are trying to pick a fight about it all over again. let it go. No. It was not a lie. You have argued and belittled people for having a belief, while pretending to not care. If you didn't care, why try to convince people you are right? Further, why act like a Christian and lump all religions together? The words are there for all to see. I have told no lies.

A reverse Saint Francis prayer "Make me a Channel of Disturbance"

Where there is apathy, let me provoke.
Where there is compliance, let me bring questioning.
Where there is silence, may I be a voice.
Where there is too much comfort and too little action, grant disruption.
Where there are doors closed and hearts locked, grant the willingness to listen.
When laws dictate and pain is overlooked...
When tradition speaks louder than need...
Grant that I may seek rather to do justice than to talk about it.
Disrupt us, O Lord
To be with, as well as for, the alienated.
To love the unlovable as well as the lovely.
Lord, make me a channel of disturbance.
