Such a petty move. The library opened in 1905, purposely built both in Canada and the US as a show of solidarity between residents on both sides of the border between 🇨🇦 and 🇺🇸. Trump’s administration has now cut off Canada’s access.

A French researcher was detained on arrival in the US, his computer and phone confiscated/ searched, and his texts criticizing Trump's cuts to scientific research were deemed by DHS agents as "hatred of Trump [that could bel described as terrorism." He was deported the next day.
According to a diplomatic source to AFP, the incident occurred on March 9. The space researcher was reportedly subjected to a random check upon arrival, during which his work computer and personal phone were searched. The same source also reported that messages discussing the Trump administration's treatment of scientists were found. He was reportedly accused of messages "that reflect hatred toward Trump and can be described as terrorism." His professional and personal equipment was reportedly confiscated, and the researcher was sent back to Europe the next day.
Reminder of freedom of opinion
According to another source briefed on the case to AFP, the French researcher was accused by the American authorities of "hateful and conspiratorial messages." He was reportedly informed of an FBI investigation, for which "charges were dropped," the source continued.

Did Israel stop in Gaza and ask who was Hamas and who was just a Palestinian civilian? An attack from one group doesn’t justify genocide on an entire people. Israel has more Palestinian hostages than Hamas has Israeli hostages, and Israel has killed far more as well. Including 14k CHILDREN.

I’m tired of constantly explaining the difference between TRQs & blanket tariffs when people say things like “Why is Canada worried about a 25% tariff when they have a 250% tariff on American dairy!” I’ve started just reposting an image of my explanation. I’m sure I’m not alone 😅 🇨🇦 🇺🇸 #cdnpoli

1. Those aren't blanket tariffs, they're called "Tariff Rate Quotas" (TRQs), also known as "Over Quota Tariffs". This means, for example, that Canada can import about 12,500 metric tons of cheese with no tariff and the TRQ only applies to goods imported above that amount.
2. We have these Tariffs as a result of USMCA (the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, aso called CUSMA in Canada). This agreement was signed by the leaders of Canada, the US, and Mexico in 2018 and replaced NAFTA in 2020.
3. It's often overlooked that under the USMCA, the
U.S. also applies similar over-quota tariffs on similar Canadian products, like up to 218% on milk, for example.
4. At the time Donald Trump (who was the current president of the US at the time, and the one who signed the agreement) called the USMCA "one of the best trade deals the US ever made" and
"groundbreaking".

My favourite place to visit to date! I’ve been there five times now, four for work and once for a family vacation. It’s the only place my teens didn’t complain about the lack of cell service and enjoyed it instead! 😅 I’ve caught a couple episodes of St. Pierre, solid show too!
