To be honest, I’ve been rather preoccupied lately and haven’t seen any calls, or at least very few relevant to what I’ve been up to. Thanks for sharing this one!

Do I know anyone organizing for Leeds 2027? I might have an idea for a paper but not where to send it.

I said there should be 13 justices, on Facebook years ago. As I’m sure lots of others have, too. Maybe somebody will finally listen?

Poll after poll shows the same thing. The American people know that the current economic system is rigged. The very rich get richer, while working families struggle. Today, while 60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, the billionaire class has never ever had it so good.

The guy who did such an incredible job with the Reflecting Pool, Ballroom, Kennedy Center, National Mall, and Great American Fair is going to redesign our warships. What could go wrong?

I was thinking the other day how those not in DC (I'm not) aren't hit as clearly with how Trump has turned the White House grounds into something between construction site and waste dump. Genuinely upsetting. Far from the worst thing he's done but among the most tangible and graphic.

To my mind, this is where a SLAC has an advantage. Our classes are small enough at we can deal with students as individuals—we have the time to do so. I likened them using AI to me having a robot lift weights for me, and they bought in. I could connect with them bc there were 18 in the class.

A new study shows that Medicare for All would save over 114,000 lives and over $1 trillion every year. The new research out of Yale shows that reductions in administrative overhead, lower pharmaceutical prices, less fraudulent billing, and fewer emergency care trips would lead to huge savings. /1

Drought conditions worsening again in Maine
A lack of rain in July has curbed months of fairly steady improvement, and the U.S. Drought Monitor has placed much of Maine's coastline back under moderate drought conditions.

Kudos to Liverpool for actually running a 2-phase proof-of-concept pilot of Copilot rather than rushing to universal roll out. That universities that pride themselves on their research status have adopted a roll out first, test maybe later approach is telling. (And that Copilot is opted for, ditto).

This is exactly what I run into with conspiracy theorists — a stray, unverified claim gets treated as if it debunks the real story, and it almost always falls apart under scrutiny. Wild to hear that pattern showing up at 60 Minutes as Cecilia Vega describes it.

Korea added ANOTHER 7 years to President Yoon's sentence this week. He's already in for life but there's constantly new trials to set precedent for every single thing he did wrong to be worthy of punishment. Elsewhere, political standards are so lax no one can even check if a dude's dead or not.

I’m hopeful that scholars in the younger generation will have opportunities to pause pursue their careers as the status of the humanities seems a bit less gloomy than at this time last year (if it’s not just my toxic optimism). I feel kind of good, actually. Let’s hope we’re turning a corner.
