Periodic reminder that Bluesky on mobile is hot garbage for screen reader users. Arguably worse than Facebook, the OG in coding for maximum disrespect toward blind folk. I'm here because you are but i hate it. The #a11y issues are fruit so low-hanging they rot on the ground. Bluesky step up.

EFF sued to get documents about WISeR, a pilot program that uses AI to authorize or deny certain types of care for patients with Medicare. “According to the documents released by the EFF, the program’s implementation was rushed, and the technology wasn’t ready,” @arstechnica.com reports.

Read all about it in the CACM! Disabled people get real benefits from AI. But our needs are invoked to justify incursions on privacy, security and autonomy. We need disabled people in the room when AI policy gets made, and AI must stay a choice. Thanks Anne-Marie Piper + team! bit.ly/47neWQI

in 2017 a popular twitter game was to type a partial phrase then see what your phone auto-completes it with. this proved so popular that it is now the only business model in the US.

Tested ChatGPT video in the train station! Just like a sighted stranger: 1/3 actionable info,2/3 "it's crowded", "there's a handrail", "watch your step". Congrats overhelpers of the world — you worried about Blind people so loudly and for so long you've got a supercomputer giving worry-as-a-service

From a Blind person motivated to check: ChatGPT voice mode with video grabs a frame and responds. It's not parsing video really. Count to five while showing five gestures to describe, or ask it to decide if you blink a light. It can't. It gets by on freeze frames and vibes
