Though this is from the 2023 annual MEO report, it’s likely the “1st” annual heat death was confirmed some time ago, though just made public. The lede IMHO should have been the large number of preliminary heat deaths we already had prior to June 1 with relatively “mild” weather. #HeatKills

So for the past few years (since heat deaths have gotten so much press) Maricopa County has been slow rolling release of data. (Even tho people usually start dying in April. Tho this yr. I’m guessing we may even see March.) We’re now in killer season - triple digits. #HeatKills

1st off, the ASU study was done in 2024, not 2020. It was done by a grad student who IS an engineer, & this study was overseen by additional highly skilled & qualified traffic engineers - including Simon Ramos who works for PHX Streets (& filed the ethics complaint against her).
