4) Snake Pass Cute platforming-without-jumping gimmicks that kinda run their course after the first few levels and kinda overstay their welcome, becoming a bit annoying towards the final levels. Between the physics and checkpoint system, I don't see myself going back for all the collectibles.

3) Batman: Arkham Origins Glad I gave this a second chance. Combat's smooth and engaging, even if it gets a bit annoying when certain enemy types are mixed in. Bosses range from "that was pretty sick" to "eat a dick, Bane." Still TONS of side content left to do.

(now with a visual aid) There's the culprit, with its weird bulge going straight down the left side--enough to separate the side of the screen from the base. I guess the lesson here is to use caution when ordering phone batteries online. I bought it back in August and it BARELY lasted up to now.

22) The Pathless I was on board the moment I saw the trailer (I even bought the soundtrack before the game). Beautiful art style, movement feels great, boss fights are AMAZING 🔥🔥🔥 My one gripe is that puzzles are too easy--they have neat mechanics but they're never used in challenging enough ways.

21) WipEout HD/Fury I had no interest in digital-only releases back then but the moment I saw the trailer for this game, I KNEW I had to break my rule lol Loved seeing tracks from Pure/Pulse brought to the HD era. Custom soundtracks got plenty of mileage here. Zone Mode is a feast for the eyes.

20) The Last Of Us This felt like Naughty Dog wanted to build upon the improved stealth mechanics from the Uncharted sequels and add more grounded, impactful gunplay on top it it. I'd say they succeeded. Environments are beautifully desolate. Story is straightforward and endearing. It's great.

19) inFAMOUS 2 Insane leap in production value from the original. The usual powers are still fun to use, and the new ones are even BETTER (who doesn't love levitating and throwing cars?). Blast Shards may be the one open-world collectible I'm cool with, since they're plentiful and easy to locate.

18) Dead Space 2 (noticing a trend of SEQUELS in my PS3 picks lol) Isaac's new suits are so badass. I love the improvements to the weapon mechanics. They made stomping corpses even MORE satisfying. Sound design is still on point. I think I still prefer the Ishimura as a setting to the Sprawl tho

17) God Of War III While not my favorite entry in the series--in fact, I have some issues with this one in terms of pacing, story, etc--that doesn't stop it from being a damn good time. Tightened up the combat a bit more than 2 did, in some ways. Santa Monica Studio went NUTS on this one. 🔥🔥🔥

16) Resistance 3 Sometimes it takes multiple entries for a series to finally hit its stride. One hell of a comeback from Resistance 2. At its peak, this game feels like the best version of a first-person Ratchet & Clank (it's even got similar weapon upgrades). I would kill for rerelease on PC.

15) Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Everyone loves a good "oh thank God, they fixed [annoying shit]" sequel, and this is definitely one of them. Gorgeous visuals, better gunplay, more opportunities for stealth, insane set pieces, and a simple yet engaging story. Loved all the silly unlockable skins.

My only frame of reference for this game before I would eventually buy it was this blurb featured in GamePro's PlayStation Encyclopedia. That's it. That's all I had to go on. Future generations would think we were INSANE for making game purchases based solely on screenshots and a few lines of text.

14) Final Fantasy X My first and favorite FF. Spira is my favorite setting in a video game--so much variety in its environments. Battle system is easy to dive into. Solid cast of VAs for being the first entry to feature voice acting. Soundtrack got me emotional. Story and characters are great. ✨

13) Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 Fast cars, track designs that encourage high speeds, police sirens/radio chatter and loud music filling your ears... love it. The rare instance of a PS2 version of a multiplatform release not being the worst. In fact, it's the opposite. 📈 Bless you, Black Box. 🙏

11) Persona 3 FES An unexpected 100+ journey of friendship, time management, fun combat, collecting cool Personas, admittedly repetitive dungeon crawling, and a stupidly catchy battle theme chorus. No other game simulates the "Great" feeling of walking outta the bathroom after handling business. 😏

10) Ape Escape 3 The original is still my favorite, but this definitely comes second. Felt like a "return to form" after 2 went in a direction I wasn't too fond of. Morph Forms are fun to use, boss fights were cool, they got Soichi Terada back on the OST... and also, y'know... Aki. 🤤💕

9) Mercenaries: Playground Of Destruction This might be all the open-world mission-based shooting I need in a game, honestly. Carefully approaching some missions to maintain my standing with various factions was fun. Love watching all the different air strikes. And the soundtrack was SO good.

8) SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle For Bikini Bottom An all-around fun 3D platformer. Nothing too crazy here, but the way they worked various gags/references from the show into game mechanics, level hazards, etc. makes it all so charming. This is like a gold standard for licensed cartoon video games.

7) Wild ARMs 2 This being my introduction to RPGs, the nostalgia is strong here, but thankfully there's a simple but generally fun game backing it up. Ignore the awful typeface used in every menu. Michiko Naruke composes some of the catchiest 45-seconds-to-a-minute loops of music you'll ever hear.

6) Omega Boost What do I gotta to convince Sony to let Polyphony Digital make another one of these? Shoji Kawamori mech designs, Panzer Dragoon designers involved, one of the best live-action FMV intros I've ever seen in a video game, all wrapped up in non-stop intense shooting/flight action. 🔥

5) Final Fantasy VII I know, I know. This game's been talked about enough--I can't add anything new to the conversation. It's still special to me, as a friend from school used to let me read his strategy guide before I owned the game. Wonky localization aside, I still found the story engaging. 📖

4) Wip3out (an objectively better title than "WipEout 3" btw) My favorite of the PS1 entries. Love the tight handling of the ships, unique original soundtracks for all the different teams, and overall cool visual style from The Designers Republic. Hell yeah widescreen support! 🙌

3) Einhänder Craziest $15 purchase I'd ever make at a video rental store in 2003. Awesome visuals, crazy boss fights, sick soundtrack... again, PS1-era Square was BUILT DIFFERENT. 2) Crash Team Racing I often mention Warped being my favorite Crash Bandicoot game, but the more I think about it (and the more Twitch speedruns I watch), I realize CTR might ACTUALLY be my favorite. It feels like a celebration of all things Crash. 🎊 Gameplay still holds up extremely well today.

1) A Bug's Life The first PlayStation game I owned. When you only have a few games, you end up getting to know them well, for better or worse. Floaty/loose movement and camera aside, this is a SOLID puzzle-platformer with fun mechanics, big levels, and a soundtrack that goes hard for no reason.
