It actually makes sense why meta stock went up 26% last month. Investors seeing the new world centered around ai animal videos and how much engagement it generates on the app.

I would guesstimate that 100% of the population does labor 100% differently. Fixed software assumes you are common to the next person, and operate within bounds. AI assumes you are different and operate at jagged edges. Any two techbros doing agentic engineering will do so differently.

I wonder if relying on vendors is the issue, instead of using a generic frontier cloud agent. My primary hobby is skating. I use agents for advice with it, e.g. Based on last workout / planned workout, what would be best to focus on, how to approach a trick, etc. No vendor offers this afaik

OP doesn't let me reply but it's pretty easy to have the agent rules be something like "optimize for organic, low sodium items from XYZ brands. Keep total cost under $$$" etc

this whole thread makes it sound like there is a new version of the bicameral mind theory. the people who are best at using ai have a level of pattern recognition in their life even if the boundaries aren't well defined. OP is saying there are people who cannot even conceive these patterns.

I don’t understand why data centers need so much land. My phone stores everything in the cloud. Why can’t we just put the data centers up there too?

Because Bessent / Lutnick see AI as something that can dismantle all previous economic theory. They're betting on it on being the one way to grow out of our debt.

Starlink is not even 1% of the Tier 1 ISP cabal by the way… The others engage in egregiously harmful practices as well; • Congestion-as-negotiation • Restrictive peering to protect wholesale prices • Last-mile capture and anti-muni lobbying • Required cooperation with state surveillance regimes

Reminds me of a long time ago when I lived in an apt that overlooked the downtown construction projects. I’d sit with a coffee in the morning and get inspired by the growth.

If someone surveyed me for who I’m voting for… I can say anything, risk free. If someone asks me on who I’m betting will win… I now have skin in the game. Do I truly think this person will win, with enough conviction that I’m willing to lose money if I’m wrong?

my bet is it's not vibe coding related as much as bsky is aspirationally distributed but not yet on par with the model of large permissionless distributed systems and is just getting hammered by DDoS day after day now techcrunch.com/2026/04/17/i...

People are mad at this but tbh I think it at least shows the teacher is updating expectations over what AI can do (a lot more), its error rate (a lot less), and its ubiquity among students (near total) and asking for prompts shows if the student made reasonable progressive inquiries for the paper

Nah strong disagree @gregpak.net I was never interested in reading as a kid. There was one (1) book that captivated me and got me to sit down and read: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I'm sure there are many more kids like I was in this regard, let's not restrict their catalyst for reading

Why is there no call for an “internet” moratorium Doing homework improved final test grades for 86% of college students students in 2008 but only 45% in 2017 because they were copying off the internet

My thought experiment when reading this is to think… have Amazon, Google, Apple created net more wealth and jobs in the world or no? Has being able to order basically anything we need and search for information anytime enshittified us? Would we have higher quality of life without these companies?

An insight here and why I’ve grown skeptical of the journalism I read. If the story was about a toaster, I would certainly want verification it makes toast. I would not even consider this a hedge. If it doesn’t make toast it’s not a toaster. Study fake barns: www.jimpryor.net/teaching/cou...

Anti-AI people are predictably some of the most likely to demonize prediction markets, especially at a time when the information climate has been declining rapidly. They want you to neither be able to seek knowledge nor express it.
