The Rebbe explained that observing Shabbat draws G-d's blessings into every day of the week that follows. "'The holiness of Shabbat goes together with the blessing of Shabbat," the Rebbe wrote, "as Torah declares: 'And G-d blessed the Seventh Day and made it holy.""

As part of the White House's Jewish American Heritage Month proclamation, President Trump designated the period from sundown Friday, May 15, through nightfall Saturday, May 16, as a national Shabbat, dubbed 'Shabbat 250.'

Invoking Revolutionary-era financier Haym Salomon, the proclamation honors the role Jewish Americans have played since the nation's earliest days. A Polish-born Jewish immigrant, Salomon helped finance the Revolution, raising crucial funds for the Continental Army and the fledgling government.

Born in Leningrad, in 1923, Mrs. Pinson was the daughter of Rabbi Yitzchok Raskin, a shochet and chasid who was murdered by the Soviets. She carried an iron willed commitment to Judaism and the Jewish people throughout her life. She served as a dedicated emissary of the Rebbe for more than 70 years.

Keep your trust in G-d for yourself. When things don't go so well, tell yourself it is all really for the good, and rejoice in however G-d treats you. But when others come with their troubles, telling them they should rejoice in their afflictions can be callous and even cruel.

It is not blind faith. It is an inner vision. It is not mind; it is yet more essential to our very being. It is the foundation from which meaningful thought begins and with it all things resolve. For it knows intimately that which the mind can only glimpse upon through the shifting clouds.

Our brains can orbit about the truth forever, but they have no feet to land. There is a faculty, however, that doesn't need to travel to find truth; for which truth was never hidden or obscured. For it is a native of truth from birth.
