Carlos Gershenson @cgershen.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Shouldn't we be doing it the other way around? Meaning, if we reduce cattle by half, we could give back to nature so much land. 120
Carlos Gershenson @cgershen.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Since we use about 40% of all habitable land for livestock (not only cattle, but mainly), increasing such cattle numbers would imply clearing almost half of our remaining forests and shrublands (one cow needs about one hectare, so 0.8 billion extra hectares). 100
Carlos Gershenson @cgershen.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Thus, to keep everyone "well fed", we would need about 2.3 billion cows. That is 50% more than what we have now (1.5B). 100
Carlos Gershenson @cgershen.bsky.social · 02/10/2026We are about 8.3 billion. Let's be modest and eat only 100gr per day of beef. One cow yields about 200kg of meat, so that is enough for 2000 people in one day. How many cows per day to feed 8.3B? 4.15 million cows per day. It takes about 18 months for cows to reach slaughter weight. 100
Carlos Gershenson @cgershen.bsky.social · 02/10/2026I started watching the great documentary How to Live on Earth with our 12 year old. A Brazilian cattle farmer said that wealth is when people can eat meat every day. How much would it take to give such wealth to all humans on the planet? 120

Carlos Gershenson @cgershen.bsky.social · 27/08/2026We identify four periods, which identify intelligence as logic, knowledge, learning, and scale. In the last period, exponential increase has accelerated. What will be the limits of this? 100

Carlos Gershenson @cgershen.bsky.social · 25/08/2026How catastrophic will this be, it is even less knowable, because there are indeed many aspects of AI that have been successful and are here to stay. Nevertheless, changes are coming. What implications do you foresee? 100
Carlos Gershenson @cgershen.bsky.social · 25/08/2026The AI bubble probably will burst soon. Whether in weeks or months, we don't know, but the growth rate is not sustainable, and many promises that have been made will not be fulfilled. 110
Carlos Gershenson @cgershen.bsky.social · 11/08/2026This is relevant because traditional models in astrophysics rely on differential equations that require supercomputers, while our model leaves out thermodynamic details but still manages to reproduce the data. 110
