Given the R/Dem ratio (6/1), you'd think they'd all get along, but in classic maga fashion they appear to hate each other (at one point there was an altercation behind the screen between 2 of them. All to say i wouldn't put it past any of them to be actively searching for dirt on one another

Are flock cameras the next data centers? The city council in my hometown (Lynchburg) has 6 republicans & 1 democrat. All the republicans are maga who've gone along with trumps numerous incursions on civil liberties. And they all voted to terminate the city's flock contract.

The unsung villain here is Melanie Krause. She got 2 IRS lawyers to pull data on undocumented immigrants' tax returns & prepare an MOU to send to DHS. She then got cold feet, tried to get her boss to sign the MOU, quit, & leaked a story that she was resigning to avoid doing what she'd already done

I often drive by Comet Pizza, the setting of this bonkers conspiracy. The basic elements were easily debunked, including the assertion that children were being kept in a basement that doesn't exist. Not sure which is worse: a press secretary who knew she was lying or one who believes all the lies.

Every dept needs a "Joyce." When i was in grad school our dept secretary (as it was called then) was the person you went to for help. She knew the procedures to get things done. But she also knew how to work around the roadblocks. Her skill was knowing who to call & what to say. She was underpaid

Uni presidents answer to Boards of trustees, governors, fickle donors, and/or the federal govt. In the past i would have included students, but i honestly don't think that applies anymore. As for faculty? Never. They view them the same way Bezos views his delivery drivers' bladders. Inconvenient.

My dad too. He was much older than all of my friends' fathers. I only learned to appreciate it later! But i never forget him telling my sister & me why Eisenhower made all the GIs go to concentration camps. So no one would say it didn't happen. Prescient given where we're at now that most have died

trump 2 has taken a legal approach I can only call 'throw all the stuff at the wall & see what sticks.' So good on Maryland for passing the law and letting the feds challenge it. Given the stuff flying at the legal wall from the other direction, there was no need to unilaterally disarm beforehand.

I always tell my students to watch it. It's great on its own terms as a gripping TV drama, but it's got academic merit too. It shows what post-conflict feels like on the ground in all its messiness. And the fact that it got made at all speaks volumes about the progress inside all those fits & starts

The first time i said Buena Vista (as the people there say it) to a person from Ohio they were like WTAF. All i could say was that the the town does indeed offer up stunning views, however you say it. I grew up nearish-by so the pronunciation issue never occurred to me until I left.

So deans would be upper management? I ask because our university is about to layoff a bunch of people but it will likely be contract faculty. At the same time they have changed our provost to an Executive VP. There's definitely a changing management structure but it seems to be preserving managers.
