So we agree then: increasing car size takes up more road space and increases risk. That was the point of the original Guardian article. Nobody said it was the only factor. The Amazon diversion therefore seems rather pointless. Cheerio.

Final mile doesn’t literally mean one mile...it means the final leg to the customer. I'm struggling to see what you're arguing against now. The issue is: private cars are getting larger, taking up more road space and increasing risk. Amazon logistics don't rebut that. What's your actual point?

CF_psychelist @cf-psychelist.bsky.social · 06/08/2026
Sure...warehouses need lorries as do supermarkets. The difference is the final mile can be consolidated and delivered by smaller EVs, cargo bikes or low-impact vehicles... rather than lots of individual SUVs making separate shopping trips. Shifting the argument doesn’t change the point.

Physician heal thyself? Surely one delivery van serving a dozen households is preferable to a dozen SUVs individually driving to the shops? If the roads feel clogged...perhaps look at how much public highway is permanently occupied by increasing numbers of oversized private cars stored on it?

Chillingly brazen about proposing mass detention using state power then positioning it so supporters don’t have to see it. It’s the kind of thinking where people can turn a blind eye because it’s happening out of sight, out of mind and history has shown where that can lead.

I’m Gen X and even as a kid it felt off. It was just pervy old men on buses leering at women and pretending it was comedy. It was gross then and it’s worse now. No chance Gen Z remakes that shit.

What is the point of Operation Snap? @cardiffcyclecity.bsky.social @ianwalker.bsky.social @williamnb.eurosky.social @cf-psychelist.bsky.social
Decision: No Further Action Taken

Further Comments:
Thank you for your submission. A decision has been made to temporarily suspend taking action on evidence submitted to Operation Snap whereby pedal cyclists, horse riders and pedestrians feel that the subject vehicle has passed them too closely. This decision has been made following national guidance from the Forensic Science Regulator. Operation Snap remains in service for witnesses of driving offences and will evaluate each incident on a case-by-case basis taking into consideration aggravating factors present. Regrettably, we’re unable to discuss this outcome further, we thank you for your patience and understanding during this time. We will communicate any updates as appropriate via official GoSafe and/or police channels.A screengrab from a bike-camera video showing a driver choosing to overtake with an oncoming car resulting in an incredibly close passA screengrab from a bike-camera video showing a driver choosing to overtake as the cyclist was already passing a parked maintenance vehicle, resulting in an incredibly close pass.

Hmmm that's disappointing. Close passes feel dangerous even if they’re hard to prove forensically after the fact. If the threshold for action is higher now, a lot of real world incidents are going to fall through the cracks making drivers less accountable and deterring cyclists from using the roads.

Own/manage a large supermarket? Here's what you really must do: 1) Provide cycle parking, in the form of Sheffield stands 2) Position them near the doors, in a well-lit area, not hidden around the back 3) Cover the area with visible CCTV 4) Don't put pallets of tat in between the stands

CF_psychelist @cf-psychelist.bsky.social · 20/04/2026
6) Supplement Sheffield stands with dedicated spaces for cargo and non-standard bikes (longtails, trikes, trailers) with wider spacing where needed

Wales has a track record of leading on public safety, smoking ban, 20mph etc. Surprising we’re not seeing the same leadership on pavement parking. Same principle, safer, more accessible streets. Worth a look at what's happening in England: act.livingstreets.org.uk/page/189938/... @senedd.wales

This is our moment, we're on the cusp of a BIG win for pedestrians in England
We know pavement parking is not only an irritation for many, but outrightly dangerous to wheelchair users, visually impaired people and parents walking their children to school. Write to your MP today, asking them to vote on a crucial Government amendment to reclaim pavements for pedestrians. Tell your MP to support Amendment 265 of the English Devolution Bill today. @livingstreets

You’re describing your situation and treating it like a rule. In a lot of places, especially outside the U.S, cycling isn’t a privilege at all, it’s what people do because they can’t afford a car. The real issue is infrastructure and distance, not whether bikes are inherently 'privileged'.

“There’s a car coming but they don’t care.” Says it all. Frames pedestrians as the problem when they’re just behaving normally. It’s not that they 'don’t care', it exposes the expectation that people should yield to the car even in places where the car is the guest or simply in the way of city life.

This is what cars look like now. Roads didn’t change, vehicles did.
Wide view of a busy car park filled mostly with large SUVs and crossovers, with one small older car parked in the middle appearing noticeably smaller than the surrounding vehicles.

Feel impassioned to comment that I used to know the Dewey codes off the top my head when I used to shelve books in a university library back in the 90s. Felt quite cool back then if you were in a certain scene...not so much now I've actually read this back.

Friends today calling buses 'peasant wagons' ever since they owned a car. That’s not about transport. Cars have become the ultimate conspicuous consumerist solution. I sighed...deeply.

There’s a certain confidence in breaking a clear rule, getting fined then taking your outrage to the local press. Occasionally the real story isn’t the ticket, it’s the unintended public case study in how not to handle being wrong. Sometimes the appeal process writes itself.

Attempted manslaughter by probability. The only thing preventing funerals was luck. Courts punish outcomes, not risk and intent. Half a second later and this is a fatality headline. The message to reckless drivers is simple: as long as nobody dies, you’ll be fine...and get to keep your license.

Funny how 'I’m just looking at the time' always shows up when the points stop being convenient, but coherently challenging...and answering a woman guest to 'go have more babies' isn’t just shallow to pretend the answer is obvious, when it isn’t...its also it’s weirdly tone-deaf.

I’m not sure 'being in power' should mean leaders operating under a softer moral standard. Diplomatic caution explains careful phrasing and not weaker commitments on human rights. Otherwise we’re just normalising double standards at the top?

This clearly isn’t about SUVs anymore. I’ll leave you to your broader argument.

CF_psychelist @cf-psychelist.bsky.social · 22/12/2025
You brought children into a discussion about SUVs, then objected when people replied to that comparison. That’s the issue here.
140
CF_psychelist @cf-psychelist.bsky.social · 21/12/2025
Also worth noting that children and families are literally how societies continue to exist. Buying an oversized city SUV is not performing the same function. That comparison doesn’t really do the work you think it does.

What, this book? Yep. It’s in my pre-ride hype tool kit as I’ve got it lined up as inspiration for my Lôn Las Cymru trip next July.
A colourful book titled “Eat Sleep Cycle: A Bike Ride Around the Coast of Britain” by Anna Hughes sits on a wooden surface. A matching bookmark is placed at the top of the book. The cover features bright illustrations of seaside scenes, a cyclist, and playful icons in blue, green, and yellow tones.

These questions aren’t an attack on driving. They’re a lens. Essential things rarely insist on taking up more space than they need. When a journey needs speed, bulk or a sense of aspirational status to feel valid, you’ve already crossed from necessity into desire.

One of the benefits of a default urban/village 20mph limit is that it unlocks initiatives which would not be possible in higher speed 30mph streets. Wales is planning that local authorities can install simple and cheaper pedestrian crossings at side roads to align with Highway Code.

There’s been some great work in Canton, Cardiff with the raised side road pavements. These new zebras look like a cheaper way to scale that idea across the city while getting much of the same benefit.

It is a weird bit of arrogance to lump walkers, cyclists and bus users into some low value block who do not vote. Almost everyone is a pedestrian and plenty of cyclists and bus riders also own cars. Reducing them to a single poor and irrelevant group says more about the commenter than about reality.
