Few things freaked me out more than the book cover to "The Dark is Rising". Took me years to actually read the thing.

For National Poetry Day, another favourite of mine and brother, Ginsberg knew what he was talking about.
Howl By Allan Ginsberg
Coming out of my cage and I've been doing just fine
Gotta, gotta be down, because I want it all
It started out with a kiss, how did it end up like this?
It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss
Now I'm falling asleep and she's calling a cab
While he's having a smoke and she's taking a drag
Now they're going to bed and my stomach is sick
And it's all in my head, but she's touching his
Chest now, he takes off her
Dress now, let me go
And I just can't look, it's killing me
They're taking control

From "Blessings in Disguise"
I thought about the pip for some time. Then I suddenly remembered that when I was seven years old I possessed a small hazel-nut which I kept in a tuckbox. It had, for me, magical properties and was a great personal secret. Sometimes I would sing the National Anthem to it. and each dav I would look to see if it had grown. In my imagination it was destined to grow until the day it would open up and a small manikin, dressed in blue, step out. He would be about a foot tall, wearing a blue velvet jerkin and breeches, and round his middle there would be a leather belt bearing a tiny cutlass. His hair would be light brown, his face ruddy and smiling, and he would be my 'best friend' for always. As a twelve-year-old I could afford to be amused at my fantasy of five years earlier, knowing It was foolishness and that the hazel-nut had long been lost - probably now nothing more than a little scattered dust. unless it was a tree. And yet was that absolutely so? A hazel-nut (though not a real one) came into my life again some forty years later.

In my early forties I read, for the first time, Julian of Norwich's Revelations of Divine Love. In that extraordinary book I found a passage which astonished and delighted me: it also slightly disturbed me by reviving the memory of the tuckbox-nut. 'Our Lord.. showed me a little thing, the quantity of a hazel-nut, in the palm of my hand; and it was as round as a ball. I thought there upon with the eve of my understanding, and thought, what may this be? And it was generally answered thus: It is all that is made. - I marvelled how it might last, for methought it might suddenly have fallen to nought. for littleness. And I was answered: It lasteth. and ever shall last, for God loveth it. God made it; God loveth it: God keepeth it. - But what is to me soothly the Maker, the Keeper, the Lover, I cannot tell.' In Julian of Norwich I also found the comforting refrain, All shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well'. used by T.S. Eliot

According to Webb, he wrote the song in London while he was finishing up work on his album El Mirage. After a late-night round of "professional drinking" with his friend Harry Nilsson, Webb went to sleep and had "an incredibly vivid dream":[1]
