I'm satisfied with the time/quality on this one. Think it was about a comfortable hour or so.

Sketch of a Tommy Lee Jones Boss ad. Couldnt finish messin with it before the coffee shop closed though. I think the nose is a bit to small and face to long? Then finer details afterward.

Eh, wanted to share my dinner. Baked sliced carrot, chopped daikon radish, enoki mushroom, a shallot, tofu slices, and chicken wings. Topped with plain yogurt, avocado, and drizzled w/ honey bbq. Also a questionable amount of salt, pepper, and buttered seasoning whatever that means.

Ah yes, Giant House Spider season, lovely. While I'm not one to speak, these fellas have some ugly mugs too.

Did okay on proportions and perspective. Need to work on shading and blending. At a certain point it would behoove me to get a sharpener and spend more than a couple hours on a picture. Larger paper and drawings would help too...which would take more time x_x

Dont mind my kanji practice above the sketch. It's mostly conjugations of shikaru(to scold)...or at least I hope it is : (

And now for something else. Started sketching things I've taken photos of, primarily to practice perspective. Its fun to wrap my head around. Ne ways.

Bonsai garden, south of Seattle. The Bonsai section is free, but the garden/nursery across from it is $12. Its a fine walk. There is a unique building at the parking lot, but its private property as far as I can tell. Still cool architecture you can enjoy from a far.

Last night, and last day in Japan. The wagyu was okay, probably werent the best cuts. Walked around Funabashi and Narita before catching the flight home. Hopefully next year I get to return to Japan to explore again.

Some more Nagoya and a cat spirit parade near Tokyo where everyone dresses up with cat themes.

Nagoya, wish I had more time to spend there. Also, RIP Critical*Hit bar, I barely knew ye. Other notes, surprsingly good anime figure stores, and the best karaage I had.

Mostly around Honmoku Sancho park, some Yokohama too. This was nearing the end of my Japan trip. Probably only a couple more post of pictures left.

Nozawaonsen, beautiful Onsen town with some skiing related things. Mostly public onsens with a couple exceptions. I really appreciated how well the street drains handled rain in such a steep place.

Sword exhibit, they had quite a few unique ones I liked more, but not all the rooms permitted pictures. My favorite had some sort of horse hair scabbard that looked like a huge brush.

Old village area. Might also be cult ran, but I cant prove that one.

The last of the cult stuff that I know is cult stuff. I wasnt 100% sure it was a cult thing until I saw the megashrine looming over the hill. It was gaudy af.

Certain_Sloth @certain-sloth.bsky.social · 13/05/2026
Alright, Im gunna limit the cult stuff to 2 posts. Welcome to the cult zone. The museum they run does have fantastic art and interesting architecture.

Train to Takayama, and Miyagawa River. Im abit mixed on this place. Pretty sure there is a literal cult in this town, there are some cool buildings, but they are probably cult owned sooo...

Best statue in Japan.

Certain_Sloth @certain-sloth.bsky.social · 10/05/2026
I want to say this is out at Toyama. There was another statue, but Id have to drop a censor on it, and I dont really know how to do that for a single picture out of four. So instead there are some pillows from a glass museum.

Another shot of a garden in Himeji, then a train stop in, I wanna say Tsuruga. It had a great coffee shop. Apparently there is a lot of archeology related things around there.

Certain_Sloth @certain-sloth.bsky.social · 09/05/2026
More Himeji, and things I saw around there. Not so fun fact, this is where I learned I no longer have a tolerance to alcohol...assume what you will from that.

Certain_Sloth @certain-sloth.bsky.social · 07/05/2026
One last shot of the cemetery, and Himeji at closer distances. I want to say one shot is from Otokoyama Haisui'ike. Just a fair warning, its like a thousand damn steps to get up to.

Nagoyama Cemetry near Himeji. The buildings and gardens are beautiful. I cant remember if the view of the castle in the distance was great or not though.

Giant tower kaliedoscope with its creepy af samurai guard. In other news, hit 200 pounds yesterday. Which is down from the 265lb peak about two years ago.

Nagahama Castle, a couple statues outside the Kunitomo gun museum.

Certain_Sloth @certain-sloth.bsky.social · 28/04/2026
Minituare museum at Nagahama, near Kyoto. I spent a good few days here. Its got quite a few oddities Ill share pictures of. To name a few, antique guns, windmill sized kaledioscope, large scale models of ships, and a terrifying samurai statue, but in a haunted cartoon sort of way.

Jurori-ji in Futaba Kamocho Nishio near Nara. Its a beautiful little village, with some smaller shops, a garden with a cold noodle dish, and the shrine. I think they had a bunch of cats wandering tooo.
