Imposing, yet not without elegance. The Breguet ‘Deux-Ponts’ was a cargo and passenger aircraft introduced in 1949 and operated by Air France from 1953 to 1972. Its most distinctive feature is its two-deck configuration. © Ecpad

I gave myself a small budget on eBay for my birthday, and the coolest thing hasn't arrived but this came very close. It's a postcard of missile row at Cape Canaveral, but with a Titan 2 missile launching. Until this I've never seen such a shot.

Can't contain my excitement for the #ProjectHailMary movie, so here's a little treat - when I saw the official poster for the movie, I knew I had to do my own take, with the designs based on descriptions from the original book by Andy Weir. Blender & Photoshop, 2026. #noAI #scifi #digitalart

25 years ago today the Near Earth Asteroid Rendezvous – Shoemaker spacecraft touched down on the Asteroid Eros, after orbiting it and making a map of the elongated 34 km long asteroid. It gently landed on the surface with its cameras obtaining views during the final descent. Digital art. #SCIART
This digital painting/render shows the NEAR spacecraft as it reached the surface, with attitude control jets spraying dust about. The spacecraft is a digital model I made from references, the asteroid surface foreground is based on the last photographs of the surface obtained on the way down. The rest of the scenery is painted based on more distant views. This was used on the cover of the mission final report. This view shows the context of the final photos in relation to the landed attitude of the NEAR spacecraft. The surface relief is guesswork, with the final descent photographs draped over a hand painted Digital Elevation map of the rocks etc. That surface model became the basis of the foreground of the other portrayal.

The XM301 gatling gun fires 20mm ammunition from three barrels at up to 1500 RPM, developed for the RAH-66 Comanche stealth helicopter. At 36.5kg, it is the lightest rotary cannon of this caliber ever.

I realized that the minimum-energy crewed Mars mission post is the denouement of the crewed flyby planning story I've dug into these past 30 yrs. If I were to plug it into a new edition of my HUMANS TO MARS book, it would conclude what is in the 2001 edition chapter 4. ntrs.nasa.gov/citations/20...

The North American F-107 was designed as a Mach 2 fighter-bomber able to carry a large tactical nuclear bomb in a semi-recessed ventral hardpoint with a 'saddle' tank, which required it to move its intakes onto its back. The result is a plane with a really unique look!
