Catholic Relief Services returned for their biennial visit to CVB. CRS has been partnering since 2019 with CVB on the SPICES program. This initiative aims to improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers while restoring degraded landscapes through market-driven, nature-based agroforestry practices.

Our #Restoration Ecology team has been hard at work on the Forest Corridor Project these past months, growing 984 #saplings in our #nurseries and planting them in the village of Kianjanomby with the help of 60 villagers. Thank you to The Dutch Zoo Association for their support of this project.

Happy International Primate Day 🐒 Did you know lemurs are the most endangered group of primates in the world? More than 90% of 112 lemur species are at risk of extinction due to habitat destruction, illegal hunting, illegal trapping, climate change & invasive species. 📸: Chloé Décobert

The Blue #Coua 💙🐦 One of the most striking birds to be found in #Ranomafana National Park, the blue coua (Coua caerulea) is an endemic species to Madagascar and belongs to the cuckoo family. But unlike other cuckoos, blue couas build their own nests & don’t display parasitic behaviour. 📸 Haoyu Zhang

A #Ranomafana National Park favourite ❤️‍🔥 Male red-bellied #lemurs are characterized by their striking white ‘teardrop’ markings and distinct red bellies, which set them apart from the females. This species exhibits sexual dichromatism, meaning that males & females have different appearances.

A symbol of Ranomafana National Park 🍂 The satanic leaf-tailed #gecko (Uroplatus phantasticus) is certainly one of the most sought-out animals of the central tropical rainforests of #Madagascar. Due to its remarkable resemblance to dry leaves, it is also one of the hardest to spot.  📸: Haoyu Zhang

Happy World Nature #Conservation Day 🌱 Today we recognise the amazing work that the staff of CVB undertake on a daily basis to conserve #biodiversity in and around #Ranomafana. It takes more than a village to protect a forest. The more villages involved, the more forest we can protect… and restore!

The dividing of the rice 🍚 It’s thanks to dedicated expedition cooks like Maro that our research teams are able to continue their work in the heart of the #Malagasy #rainforest. A heartfelt thank you to all our hardworking field staff. Without them, #research would simply not be possible.
