The batteries for my IBM 4612 were some of the most incredible damage I have ever seen in a battery.

Here's a few other photos I considered for the thumbnail. The scratches and glare made it annoyingly hard to really present a lot of detail on the screen.

Always remember to register your software and only use genuine Microsoft products.

The ferrous nature of JB Weld means that something as easy as gluing a magnet to a driveshaft can be a chore. It keeps sucking up all of the epoxy and wearing it rather than letting it puddle underneath.

One person left #VCFmw without a muffler. One person left VCFmw with a new friend. 🥹
A rusty muffler. Presumably it fell off a car.....because it 's rusty.A rusty muffler. Now with "Emotional support Muffler" written on it.

I'm hoping everyone is enjoying VCF MidWest because I got a sunburn today. >:T

In VERY late-breaking news I have been informed that due to a catastrophic and unexpected budget shortfall, the VCF MidWest Planning Committee was only able to rent four tables and a small ball pit. Load-in starts tomorrow. Good luck.

Hearing people chatter about how Apple is going to release a folding iPhone and how it's going to change everything, forgetting that the best flip phone ever made has existed already for 30 years.
The Motorola StarTAC, pictured opened and folded, was originally released in 1996 at a cost of around $1000. (about $2000 today)

We’ll that was $40 in PVC fittings wasted…….
John’s new support stand for the rooftop weather station after a day of letting the pipe cement fully cure. Note how the anemometer does not clear the wind vane. The face of an idiot when he realized just how expensive that mistake was.

Because I’m not gonna pay $150usd per cable. This is why the VCF free pile exists! 🤪 Thanks to whoever was dumping the shielded ribbon cable at VCF West. I’m making good use of it right now!

I've lived away from Ontario for too long but it still hits me in the childhood when you see stuff like this happening because it means you were not the only person in Southern Ontario who remembered Knob Hill Farms as a kid.
Having been closed for over 25 years, the plot of land that once had the Oshawa Food Terminal is now a cement slab being slowly ground up for redevelopment. Elsewhere on the site, the circular emblem of Knob Hill Farms which was set in a slab of granite when the site was first converted into one of the largest grocery stores in the world (I think it was second to the Cambridge Food Terminal) has been cut away from the foundation and is carefully lifted from the ground and into a waiting crate for safe storage. It will be reinstalled in the new transit plaza once construction is underway.

A cluster of open windows containing various graphic elements to Quake 3. In one window is the original TARGA assets. In another is an editor window and a sidebar showing various element layers. Another window shows a tiled view of completed images. At the bottom the Optimus Maximus Configurator is open to the overlay editor and images are being assigned to keys as per the original concept photo from 2005, seen on the right.

For software, I *DO* have physical packs at this time but resource constraints currently don't make it possible for me to dump them and current imaging tools don't recognize the Four-Phase Filesystem, much less any drive emulators. For these I'll absolutely need help at some point.

I love how the console kids got so drunk on PVM’s and the RGB placebo, this PVM-8040 hit the VCF West free pile because “it’s so basic it’s not worth repairing” and with three caps in the PSU, it’s been running fine all week. You people suck. Get a real skillset and stop reading Reddit.
A little bit green but it’s fine. The portable display isn’t much bigger than my motioncorder high-speed camera.

It’s wednesday. That means it’s time to repair a Watchman with battery damage and carbon tracking.
Battery corrosion pooled at the base of the unit, attacking these traces.Pocket TV’s are just as hell to work on as camcorders.More battery leakage. Bonus carbon tracking that’s killing the high voltage.Happy results.

“Yeah, that’s a blue box.” - Woz, for the ten seconds after his talk at VCF West before he was quickly escorted back to his car by event security (seriously, he was in and out via a sideroomwith no off-mic talk time or a walk-through and that sucked.)
A crude clear plastic box containing a nine volt battery, 16 buttons, a speaker under the electrical tape cap and various electronics stuffed inside.Same box, just the backside.

...or not? Hmm, the Model I uses FX 5500's and the model III the same. The model II actually uses the FX 4500 *X2*, so close, but not exactly the same. Meh, beggars can't be choosers. I don't think in this day and age anyone will notice. ;)
