Last week, after months of preparatory work, the ICRC library sent to digitization 2 important heritage collections: the “Prisoners of War” one, and the “Ancien Fonds”. The Ancien Fonds documents the first years and the development of the ICRC, of the Movement and of IHL, from the 1860s to WWI.

Il y a quelques jours, nous avons vécu un moment symbolique avec la numérisation du premier cahier de procès-verbaux du CICR. Il commence par le compte-rendu de la séance constitutive de ce qui allait devenir le CICR, rédigé par Henry Dunant lui-même. 50 millions de pages vont être numérisées.

10. During the hostage crisis at the Japanese embassy in Lima (December 1996-April 1997), the ICRC assisted the hostages, contributed to the reestablishment of family links and took a pivotal role in the negotiations between the hostage-takers and the authorities.

8. In 1967, following the Six-Day War, the ICRC repatriated 5’500 prisoners of war and 1’000 civilians. At the end of the 1973 Arab-Israeli War, 9’000 prisoners were repatriated under its auspices.

10. Lors de la prise d'otages à l'ambassade du Japon à Lima (décembre 1996-avril 1997), le CICR est venu en aide aux otages, a contribué au rétablissement des liens familiaux et a joué un rôle central dans les négociations entre les preneurs d'otages et les autorités.

8. En 1967, à la suite de la guerre des Six Jours, le CICR rapatrie 5'500 prisonniers de guerre et 1'000 civils. À la fin de la guerre israélo-arabe de 1973, 9'000 prisonniers ont été rapatriés sous ses auspices.
