Day 24: FTF or IWTB Oh for sure FTF. I went with college roommates opening weekend. I wish those of you not there could experience what the theater was like when that bee showed up. A collective outcry of frustration. Just in a normal movie complex on the weekend. #xfiles25days

In the 1998 film The X-Files: Fight the Future, Mulder and Scully are in close up, appearing like they are about to kiss. His bottom lip is about five millimeters from her top lip. His hands are on her neck and one of her hands is on his shoulder. Not to spoil the movie or anything, but they aren’t ACTUALLY about to kiss because it’s going to be unbelievably interrupted by a bee sting—but it sure looks like it is inevitable in this photo.

Day 23: fav Scully scene So, so many possibilities for this, but I do like it when the girl stands down Congress for the Truth / Mulder in Terma. (This photo is from a HIGHLY recommended series of gifsets on Tumblr called “how to say I love you on The X-Files.” tinyurl.com/36mkjamr) #xfiles25days

In the season 4 episode of The X-Files “Terma,” we see Dana Scully through the window of a cell. She is wearing a dark suit and crossing her arms over her chest, looking resolute. Caption: how to say “I love you” in x-files [24/?] —> 4.09 “Terma”

Day 22: fav revival episode I don’t HATE the revival, and there are moments I love. But the ep I really lost myself in from beginning to end was Rm9sbG93ZXJz. Fun plot, and it felt like the show was engaging more meaningfully with contemporary issues (and contemporary TV storytelling). #xfiles25days

In the season 11 episode of The X-Files “Rm9sbG93ZXJz,” Scully and Mulder sit at a sushi counter in a dimly-lit restaurant at night. They look up, alert, at something they hear off camera. Scully’s got food in her chopsticks.

In the season 11 episode of The X-Files “Rm9sbG93ZXJz,” Fox Mulder and Dana Scully run through a factory at night with flashlights ablaze.

In the season 11 episode of The X-Files “Rm9sbG93ZXJz,” Fox Mulder stands, looking alert and alarmed, outside of the front door of his house (the Unremarkable House) at night. He is staring at something off camera.

Cecily Sass. @cecilysass.bsky.social · 21/12/2024

Day 21: fav Mulder scene Near impossible for me. But I am going to choose his crying breakdown in One Breath, because it shows so much about him: his desperate early dependence on Scully, his intense survivor guilt, his anguish over making right choices. #xfiles25days

In the season 2 episode of The X-Files “One Breath,” Fox Mulder is in his apartment leaning against the doorway to his living room with his head bent downward. He is in the process of crumpling to the floor in devastation.

Day 19: fav season 9 ep Only answer I can even consider is The Truth. That poorly-lit, Skinner-witnessed kiss. The final Pilot-bookend conversation. I might not love the season as a whole, but LOVE those scenes. #xfiles25days

In the season 9 episode of The X-Files “The Truth,” Mulder and Scully lie on a motel bed on their sides facing one another with their arms around each other. Mulder is wearing a gray tee shirt? (I think? It could be white?) and Scully is wearing light-colored pajamas. Mulder is talking and Scully is sort of nuzzling him, with her eyebrow touching his forehead.

In the season 9 episode of The X-Files “The Truth,” Mulder and Scully share a kiss in close up. Mulder is wearing orange prisoner clothing. They both have their hands on the other’s face and are caressing their cheeks with their thumbs. I adjusted this photo quite a bit to maximize available light because it is very dim.

Day 18: fav XF photo shoot Yeah. It’s not even close. #xfiles25days

An image from the cover of Rolling Stone magazine in 1996. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson in bed. DD, topless, lies mostly on his back and has his arms around her. He is looking directly at the camera with the most ridiculously sexy, look-at-me expression. GA, also appearing to be topless, is draped over him with her arms around him and her naked chest apparently pressed against his. There is a sheet up to their waists, but very obsessive people will notice that the outline of her leg is visible and it is definitely curled over him. The photo is enough to make casual college student viewers like me gasp aloud at the grocery store checkout.

An excerpt from an image inside Rolling Stone magazine in 1996. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson in bed. GA looks at the camera wearing a black lace teddy and red lipstick and holding a cigarette. DD, topless with a very appealing smooth back showing, lies on top of her very-barely-covered boob. He is facing her entirely and his eyes are closed.

Day 17: fav season 8 ep DeadAlive. I fear I have a problematic love for this angsty soap operatic storyline. When pregnant Scully comes running into that hospital all “TELL ME IT’S TRUE. I NEED TO SEE HIM!!”? Just put that in a bowl and let me eat it with a spoon, y’all. #xfiles25days

Day 15: fav season 7 ep So we meet again, Amor Fati my beloved. I have definite issues with this ep—but also am low key obsessed with it, so what can you do? Have a Jesus-themed dream sequence and chill with your touchstone, I guess. #xfiles25days

In the season 7 episode of The X-Files “The Sixth Extinction II: Amor Fati,” a concerned Dana Scully leans over Mulder’s unconscious restrained body on an operating table. He is positioned to look like Christ on the cross and is lit from below to give him kind of a messianic glow I guess.

In the season 7 episode of The X-Files “The Sixth Extinction II: Amor Fati,” Fox Mulder is in close up with a head bandage, speaking softly and sweetly to someone unseen but who I can tell you is Dana Scully. Subtitle: “You… were my friend, and you told me the truth.”

Day 14: fav MOTW This is impossible; how could I ever do this?!? I will do top 5 in no particular order: Bad Blood, How the Ghosts Stole Christmas, Milagro, Quagmire, Beyond the Sea. #xfiles25days

In the 6th season episode of The X-Files “Milagro,” Scully clutches Mulder, sobbing, her face to his shoulder and her hands on his back and neck. He is visible only from behind.

In the 1st season episode of The X-Files “Beyond the Sea,” Dana Scully sits on Fox Mulder’s hospital bed wearing a dark suit. Mulder has his hand on her shoulder. She is looking towards him with appreciation and affection.

In the 5th season episode of The X-Files “Bad Blood,” Fox Mulder dramatically tells Dana Scully something while urgently grabbing her by the shoulders. He has a comically determined look on his face. They are inside, in a police department; there is moody low light.

In the 3rd season episode of The X-Files “Quagmire,” Mulder and Scully sit at night on a large rock in a lake. They both are wearing big jackets and look cold. Mulder is leaning back blowing on his hands for warmth. Scully is sitting more in the foreground. She is sitting on some emergency flotation devices, her elbows on her knees and her hands on her face. She seems to be talking—they are mid-conversation.

Day 13: s6 ep In a season I adore, Field Trip’s my favorite. One of the show’s amazing penultimate partnership episodes (eps about altered perception and the Mulder-Scully dynamic that air right before the season finales s3-6), this MOTW is just about Them in the best way.

Season 6 episode of The X-Files “Field Trip,” shot of Dana Scully wearing a suit with out of focus background. She looks disturbed and is saying something urgently. Subtitle: “How did you get here?”

Season 6 episode of The X-Files “Field Trip,” close up of Fox Mulder with his fingers clutching his face looking existentially freaked out: mouth open, eyes round.

Season 6 episode of The X-Files “Field Trip,” shot of Dana Scully and Fox Mulder standing in an indeterminate indoor location in dramatic low light. They are staring at something off screen. Scully looks shocked: mouth open, eyes wide. Mulder looks happy and excited.

Season 6 episode of The X-Files “Field Trip.” This was originally a gif and I don’t know where BlueSky will freeze it exactly, but it is the end of the episode. Mulder and Scully are covered in dirt and mushroom acid and are lying side by side across an ambulance, exhausted and injured. Mulder looks over at Scully, who is not looking his direction, and reaches his hand across the ambulance towards her. Seemingly without even looking, she extends her hand back and they grasp fingers.

Day 12: fav character other than Mulder / Scully Krycek. He’s hot af, plus he’s always had an interesting Vampire Lestat-style survivor morality and fluid sexuality. I was always disappointed we never learned his back story. (I once wrote Krycek/Marita, Krycek pov, back in the day!) #xfiles25days

Alex Krycek from The X-Files in close up, lit from one side, looking bad boy and menacing and unreasonably hot.

In the 5th season episode of The X-Files “The Red and the Black,” the character Alex Krycek kisses Fox Mulder on the cheek in close up. Mulder’s eyes are closed. (This scene kind of broke early online fanfic, as you can imagine.)

The X-Files character Alex Krycek about to make out with the character Marita against a dark, shadowy, dramatically lit wall. Honestly, I kind of forget what episode this is, but they are both very good looking.

Day 11: fav Skinner scene Surprisingly difficult for me to narrow down—I didn’t know I was such an opinionated Skinner scene fan lol. I’m choosing the tense Scully-Skinner-Mulder standoff at the beginning of Paper Clip because I honestly just love it. #xfiles25days

In season 3 episode of The X-Files Paper Clip, a close up of Walter Skinner holding his gun on agents Mulder and Scully. He looks tense and stressed.

In season 3 episode of The X-Files Paper Clip, Dana Scully holds her gun on Walter Skinner (off screen) and reacts in visible surprise (open mouth, wide eyes) to seeing Fox Mulder (off screen) appear in his apartment door.

In season 3 episode of The X-Files Paper Clip, Fox Mulder stands in the doorway of his apartment holding a gun on Walter Skinner (not on screen). This is a closer shot of Mulder with his face half lit and the gun out of focus.

In season 3 episode of The X-Files Paper Clip, Dana Scully holds her gun on Walter Skinner. Skinner holds his gun on Fox Mulder, whose back is to the screen. They are standing in the living room of Mulder’s apartment. Skinner is saying something urgent to both of them with tense body language. Scully is staring at Mulder.

Day 10: fav Season 5 ep I figured Bad Blood would get a lot of deserved love, so I went for a possibly(?) more niche choice: Pine Bluff Variant. Intrigue, partner trust angst, hurt/comfort. And it gives me the chance to link to my PBV fic recs. www.tumblr.com/cecilysass/7... #xfiles25days

Day 9: fav Reyes scene I admit this is hard; I never warmed up to many episodes where she was an important character. But she was badass trying to protect Scully when she was in labor in Existence, and a good person to be there if Mulder wasn’t. Better than Skinner or Frohike lol. #xfiles25days

In the season 8 episode of The X-Files “Existence,” Monica Reyes, with a determined expression, holds a gun on a woman out of focus in the foreground she believes is a danger to Dana Scully. She wears a white tee shirt and the background is dark.

In the season 8 episode of The X-Files “Existence,” a close up on Monica Reyes’s shocked and frightened face with a dark background as she sees super soldiers (off screen) approach.

In the season 8 episode of The X-Files “Existence,” Monica Reyes, wearing a white tee shirt and jeans, pours water from a bucket in a candlelit room. Dana Scully sits in front of her mostly in silhouette.

Cecily Sass. @cecilysass.bsky.social · 08/12/2024

Day 8: Season 4 ep This kills me. Paper Hearts and Never Again tie. PH is so well-written, well-acted: such a brutal take on the Samantha story (one I kinda think should’ve been the story’s real end). NA is a crucial Scully character ep, a crucial MSR ep. (But DEMONS! my beloved!) #xfiles25days

In the season 4 episode of The X-Files “Never Again,” Mulder works at his desk and Scully sits across from him in a chair, looking down. This is the last shot of the episode and it is lit starkly, with lots of dramatic shadow. There is a melancholy feeling, showing their separation. It also emphasizes the space between them—as well as the space AROUND them, which is especially pointed because the episode features a conflict between them about why Scully doesn’t have a desk (and Mulder claims it’s because there is no room.)

In the season 4 episode of The X-Files “Never Again,” Dana Scully stands outside a tattoo shop in a somber black coat looking at the window. It has a brightly lit neon sign saying “Tattoo” and lots of colored sample art.

In the season 4 episode of The X-Files “Paper Hearts,” Mulder and Scully stand in the prison gym with a basketball hoop visible behind them. Mulder is wearing a dark suit and looking guarded but asking questions needily. Scully is wearing a gray suit and has her arms crossed and looks fiercely protective.

In the season 4 episode of The X-Files “Paper Hearts,” Fox Mulder sits with his hand to his mouth, looking pensive and vulnerable, in a pink tee shirt.

Day 7: fav Doggett scene I’m going to indulge my love for the super angsty scene in This Is Not Happening. As he is walking towards her, Doggett has a super haunted, miserable look on his face … because of course he KNOWS. Then when he holds her back? omg #xfiles25days

In 8th season X-Files episode This Is Not Happening: night, misty weather, outdoors under trees, John Doggett walks towards Dana Scully (off screen) with a haunted, miserable expression on his face.

In 8th season X-Files episode This Is Not Happening: night, misty weather, Dana Scully looks at something (Fox Mulder’s lifeless body, off screen) in fear and desperation, being held back by John Doggett. Walter Skinner visible out of focus in background.

But I gotta go with “you were my constant, my touchstone” because it IS the relationship. (2nd: “wouldn’t put myself on the line for anybody but you”) #xfiles25days

Day 5: season 3 ep I can’t decide, so it’s a tie: Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose and Pusher. It depends whether I want brilliant wit / philosophical themes or taut thriller/ MSR subtext, and I really want both. They’re both brilliant. (shhhh don’t mention Quagmire.) #25daysofxfiles
