Really enjoyed the (very generous!) Dosa Divas demo! It takes Thirsty Suitors’ colourful rebels, goofy yet emotional family tale, and turn-based RPG combat spiced up with meaningful dialogue, and adds a tasty cooking mechanic that enriches both story and gameplay. Can’t wait for the full game!

Type Help No sound or visuals, but the sharp writing of this (free!) text adventure paints the grimmest of pictures in your mind. Unraveling its narrative structure makes you feel like a True Detective, and the way the game allows you to use the interface as your personal notebook is brilliant.

Time Flies Simple in concept, flawless in execution. The amount of interactions @playables.net squeeze out of one (1) mechanic game design genius. That it’s also a meditation on the fleetingness of life, featuring comedy as well as social critique is just enough to make your jaw drop.

Strange Antiquities Started playing this just yesterday, and couldn’t put it down ever since. Well, until now. Just like its horticultural predecessor, this one manages to capture the maniacal pleasure of identifying and labeling (dangerous?) magical objects, and dole them out to villagers.

s.p.l.i.t. No, that’s not a lo-fi version of The Last of Us. It *is* however a super clever short hacking game by Mike Klubnika, the creator of Buckshot Roulette. Eery vibes (a hacker using capital letters and punctuation *shivers*) and the award for Best Use of a Power Tool included.

Hades II You can do worse than be the sequel to one of the most beloved roguelikes ever. But at the same time, you *could* do worse. I guess for Hades II it’s a bit of both. It’s got no business being as good as it is, but there’ll always be a lingering shadow over that exceptional feat.

The Drifter Looks like how you imagined Monkey Island through rose-tinted nostalgia, but its design (that UI!) is slicker than a freshly paved highway. In every definition - visuals, design, narrative, music and voice acting - a modern classic of the adventure genre.

Dispatch This image tells you pretty much everything that’s wrong with Dispatch. It also tells you why it’s sold over 2M copies. Personally I’m just glad the team behind my favourite Telltale stories are at it again. It’s not without faults, but there’s so much room (also, money now) to grow.

3. Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! (2021) 🏁 FINISHED A psychological horror game masquerading as a dating sim, that can be scary, but is mundanely boring most of the time. It plays a few cool tricks on you, but it never moves beyond its main twist, constantly resetting to its flat waifu origins.

2. Jak and Daxter (2001) ⭐️ RECOMMENDED Almost 25 years on, Naughty Dog’s PS2 debut is still an enjoyable romp. Some of it is positively *ancient* (clunky camera, brutal checkpointing). but overall this holds up very well. Also, can we bring back AAA games you can finish in under 10 hours?

1. Man of Medan (2019) - 🏁 COMPLETED Happily surprised by House of Ashes last year, I wanted to try out the rest of the series. Man of Medan isn’t on that level. Story and cast are passable, but frequent jump scares, weird branching and cheap deaths underline a debut still searching its footing.

1 - Lorelei and the Laser Eyes A rollercoaster for your intelligence, this game makes you feel like a moron, a genius and a moron again in a matter of minutes. Its story is pompous by design, meditating on the very nature of art and exploring the history of games as a medium and an industry.

2 - Animal Well A zoo trip on mushrooms gone horribly wrong. Set in a seemingly hostile world, the game’s mystery is unavoidably attractive, every blind spot on the map begging to be charted. Curiosity will challenge you to overcome a primal fear and reward you with the joy of discovery.

3 - Astro Bot This platformer is so full of ideas it has to discard some of its best mechanics after toying around with it for only 10 minutes or so. Sure, it’s fuelled by nostalgia and it feels like interactive marketing at times, but the love in this little robot heart beats with genuine fun.
