And the librarian had a very boozy lunch but is hoping that if they sound confident enough they can style it out and no one will notice

That's a fascinating possibility - that it's Carol stirring up trouble, from beyond the grave. Would never have occurred to me. If that was Carol's mindset, the contents of the will could also be interesting.... #TheArchers

I shall watch with great interest. (Assuming you blog about it, anyway!). Sounds like a really fruitful experiment

I think the most striking thing for me, reading your earliest experiments, was the way it trusted people to engage with the Bible passage for themselves, rather than felt the need to pre-digest it for them, in some way.

Yeah. I now realise I wasn't listening carefully enough to that bit! #TheArchers

Ah - I'd misunderstood when the dates were laid out and hadn't twigged it was separate days. My attention probably wandered at a crucial moment. I shall abandon my theory and await developments then. Bell fund seems very likely, if the amount is what Alan mentioned was needed. #TheArchers

An interesting post to read. How's it going with your walking/biking/expeditionary church experiment?

My #TheArchers theory. Carol paid Alan back for the flowers, as we all know. But she typed £6000 as the amount to pay him, rather than £60.00. A missing decimal place. The numbers are so similar.

Claire Cullingworth @ccullingworth.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
I don't think we've heard either way on that one. My theory is that there's only one payment. But Carol typed in £6000, thinking that she was typing £60.00

Slightly odd request, perhaps, and it might not even make sense, but does anyone have suggestions for a poet who is a bit like Mary Oliver, but with a much more urban backdrop? Mulling over some stuff, and interested to know if there's someone out there writing like that. ✝️⚓

Thank you, I shall investigate. I don't often crochet, but one of my kids does and hates the sewing and the ends. (And often, unsuccessfully, tries to persuade me to do it for them!)

Claire Cullingworth @ccullingworth.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
No sewing and no ends??? What sort of witchcraft is this!?
120
Claire Cullingworth @ccullingworth.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
That's fascinating. I need to mull that over for a while, but it feels like a really thought provoking approach.

I was pretty much shouting at him through the radio, when he was paying for the flowers. So very, very stupid. #TheArchers

Yes! It's one of the very loveliest things about having small children.

Someone give her a comfy chair and a nice cup of tea. She looks like she's having a tiresome sort of day.

That's very true, yes.

I agree about the first letter looking very much like the P on the line above. Could it be Patty? A nickname for a Patricia or a Patrick?

Same here. I hang out with a really broad cross section of people at our community drop in. As a group, there's very little we all agree on, ethically, socially, politically etc. But I've still never heard anyone there who is pro-Hitler.

My first thought was the opposite - all the streetlights in town powered from the house fuse board.

I hope I wasn't being irritating! If so, I'm sorry. Hard to judge tone, in text. They're both interesting buildings, in different ways. You've set me off wondering which other cities have 2 cathedrals so close together.

Me (to a little boy beside me in a cafe who is wearing a yellow coat): Nice coat. Little boy: Thank you. It means when night comes I can hide as a star. Art by Penny Neville Lee. Words by me.
A line drawing and block colour-little boy in a yellow coat, shoes and pointy hat surrounded by large yellow stars and a crescent moon.

It's better than that! It has not one, but two cathedrals pleasingly close to the station! The Anglican one is 5 minutes walk away, but the RC one is directly opposite you when you come out the main entrance.

It really is. I used to really look forward to the brochures coming out, every year. And it was always one of the first bits of local information to find, when we moved to a new area (that, and join the library)

Yeah, I remember the stairs being weird from last time, which was my first pair of varifocals. I'm probably unlikely to be called on to climb ladders in the next few days, at least

Claire Cullingworth @ccullingworth.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Yes! Such a good way to meet people in a new area too, or get some adult company, if you're home with small children all day. And so good for mental well being, to learn a new skill and work with your hands. I sorely miss the time when they were so readily available.

New varifocals! So I'm spending the whole time bobbing my head around like a fool, trying to get the right bit of lens between me and whatever I'm trying to look at. But being able to read tiny writing on things again is wonderful!

My teenager had a picture book about someone stealing (or hiding) cookies, while someone else was out of the room, if I recall rightly.

That's such an apt meme for my kid. Diagnosed aged 17, (having researched the hell out of autism beforehand, obviously), sat in their diagnostic appointment being asked to look at a picture book aimed at 5 year olds. Hope you get the right outcome from your assessment and don't have to wait too long
