MinneChristo @cclancrete.bsky.social · 07/09/2026I will say with 90% certainty that I was at the Outcry/Santa's Lap show, because I had friends in both bands. If I didn't make that show it would have been because I was working graveyard shift at Embers that night. 010
MinneChristo @cclancrete.bsky.social · 29/08/2026I love how this footage centers on Bruce Allen. The unsung hero of the band. 010
MinneChristo @cclancrete.bsky.social · 18/08/2026I don't have a huge collection of 45s, but these are two of the most cherished singles I own. 140
MinneChristo @cclancrete.bsky.social · 08/08/2026OMG the recording even captures the sound of the firecrackers Albini lit off at the end of Racer X. That's what my story is about. 010
MinneChristo @cclancrete.bsky.social · 08/08/2026Oh wow - pretty surprised to learn that this show was recorded. I was managing the Whole at the time and this was a highlight of my time there. I have a pretty good story about that night. 110
MinneChristo @cclancrete.bsky.social · 01/08/2026Memorable show for me. Jonathan was avoiding all of his early Modern Lovers stuff, but Cale performed Pablo Picasso. 010

MinneChristo @cclancrete.bsky.social · 15/06/2026I was at that show. It was a thrill to see him, but he was promoting his disappointing second album and that detracted from his set. To be honest, the Thomas Dolby show earlier in the week was more memorable for me. Maybe cuz I got a comp for that show and was surprised at how good it was. 030
MinneChristo @cclancrete.bsky.social · 25/05/2026I was at the show, first time seeing Motorhead, and they blew me away. Ace of Spades had come out the previous year and they were at their peak. Ozzy was on his first solo tour, with Randy Rhodes in the band and "Crazy Train" getting huge attention from us high school kids. Bream oblivious. 130
MinneChristo @cclancrete.bsky.social · 15/05/2026Shangoya opened the time before, on the Combat Rock tour. That was my one and only time I saw them. (The Clash, that is...I think I saw a couple other Shangoya shows around town). 030

MinneChristo @cclancrete.bsky.social · 06/04/2026I was in the Northrup balcony for this show, and there again for a Talking Heads show four months later. The Heads show stands out in my memory as the night of the swaying balcony. Kinda freaked me out. 050

MinneChristo @cclancrete.bsky.social · 13/03/2026Perry's Pizza! My brain has been stuck for decades trying to remember the name. I split my lunchtimes in mid-80's Dinkytown between Perry's and Rocky Rococo. Perry's was #1 for me. 021

MinneChristo @cclancrete.bsky.social · 28/02/2026Between the Hypstrz, the Mofos and King Kustom & the Cruisers, I've seen the Batson brothers more in my life than any other performers. Including today's show. 020

MinneChristo @cclancrete.bsky.social · 20/02/2026I started there in spring '83, initially so I could get into the Dead Kennedys show at the Great Hall that spring. I did a lot of the publicity work in 83-84, and ran the club in 84-85. I have a bunch of flyers from my time there and a "manager" folder with memos and some history. 120
MinneChristo @cclancrete.bsky.social · 20/02/2026That checks out. I found this in the Whole's "annual report" for the '83-84 school year. I can't recall if I worked that LFR show, but I have strong memories of some of the shows on this list. 141
MinneChristo @cclancrete.bsky.social · 20/02/2026I have a folder full of Whole archives from that time. I just checked and learned that Sweet Taste of Afrika was playing in the Whole the night the Replacements were over at Willey. 131
MinneChristo @cclancrete.bsky.social · 20/02/2026One would think this show would have been at the Whole over in Coffman Union, but the Whole was in transition at that time from its "coffeehouse" folk/jazz orientation to its "progressive" iteration. I started volunteering at the Whole a year later when new wave/punk shows took over. 340
MinneChristo @cclancrete.bsky.social · 20/02/2026I was a senior in high school when I went to this show, and started at UMN the following fall. I don't recall any other shows happening at the Willey auditorium, but I did eventually return there for Psych 1001. 040
MinneChristo @cclancrete.bsky.social · 18/02/2026When I was a small child my parents bought me the Golden Records audio version of Avengers #4. In the recording Namor refers to himself as the Sub-ma-REEN-er. I think that settles it. 021
MinneChristo @cclancrete.bsky.social · 08/02/2026Yep. Steve had a band in Chicago called Strike Under in the early 80s - a significant part of the scene there alongside Big Black, Naked Raygun, the Effigies etc. I got to know him a bit when he moved to Mpls and started dating a friend of mine. 020

MinneChristo @cclancrete.bsky.social · 17/01/2026Went to that show with a high school crush and a couple of her friends. I could write a pretty cringe short story about that night. The concert itself? Fantastic. Two of my favorite bands at the time, both in their prime. 120
