TBH I’m wary of any electoral system. In the current febrile climate any number of crackpot parties could be in the ascendancy: the elections to the devolved Celtic Assemblies under PR have not really resulted in good administration. Yet older voters are taken in now by Farage/Tice lies. 🤷‍♂️

Richard Tice deputy leader of Reform ran four shell companies which did not pay any tax on profits between 2020 and 2022. He's now offering to "put things right". Go on then Richard - resign. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/poli...

Quite. At some stage Starmer will move on but the UK populace will soldier on, just as it has for the previous 5 or 6 PMs.

No disagreement there - only the suspicion that on Iran/Trump-Netanyahu illegal war it might have been down to reticence & on Europe dawning on him that Trump will never benefit the UK.

I remain baffled: the drive evident in Starmer as the forensic Leader of the Opposition, not unnatural with his DPP background, seems to be completely absent as PM. So Presidential that he appears remote & NOT Blair sofa-style managerial cosiness. Almost semi-detached Biffen but lacking the skills

Not so - the average U.K. household income net of tax is £40,900 so your argument fails miserably. Average pensioner household income £30,940.

The ludicrous issue is jacking up pensionable age when jobs are near impossible to acquire, pushing more onto benefit. I happen to have been fortunate to have worked until 72, but many not so lucky.

CAFCA @caxskye.bsky.social · 14/04/2026
An unnecessary distortion - there are unlikely to be many pensioner households with 2 @ £35k. The removal of WFP was the first gross error of Starmer/Reeves followed by many more blunders. Discussion of triple-lock & pensions is remarkable for the stupidity of many fulminating about it.

I will never understand how anyone can look at a situation like this and think "man, data centres and AI are really going to help solve climate change and incentivse renewable energy" www.politico.com/newsletters/...
Data centers seem to be moving to the front of the line — at least for some equipment — thanks to the jaw-dropping amounts of cash they have on hand. Utilities, meanwhile, often must finance purchases for major pieces of infrastructure.

Harry Sideris, president and CEO of Duke Energy, said at a CERAWeek panel that his company has been doing things they’ve “never dreamed of” to serve data centers.

“We got Caterpillar reciprocating engines on the back of a flatbed — a tractor trailer — to get somebody online three months earlier because they’re making $10 million a day,” Sideris said.

That $10 million a day — that’s for just one data center, he said.

“The cost of doing that is negligible to what they’re making, so doing creative things [to bring them online] is really powerful for them,” Sideris said.

Having spent 21 yrs working in different parts of the public sector I can identify with this. Too often the response is ‘nothing to do with me’ /‘not my decision’ when blatantly that is what the role is for. Guess academia merely takes this a further stage. (Did temp for a MAT for 6 mths - chaos)

It’s increasingly clear that Starmer has few practical solutions for the ills facing the UK. Most of his remedies are fine words - in effect smoke & mirrors. 21 months on from gaining office in 2024 the grasp of his Cabinet on reality is slipping further away. Any achievements merely perfunctory
