John Cavnar-Johnson @cavnar-johnson.net · 02/10/2026I have been in work meetings all day and so behind on the news. Saw this post and was thoroughly confused for a bit. 000
John Cavnar-Johnson @cavnar-johnson.net · 24/09/2026Read this thread. Even though Republicans in Texas have engaged in a lot of voter suppression, this ain’t that. Voter suppression is when the Texas AG goes after voter registration organizations based on rw bs laundered by Fox (Bartiromo). www.texastribune.org/2025/11/10/t...texastribune.orgJudge: Paxton cannot shutter Texas Latino voting groupPaxton had accused Jolt Initiative of an “unlawful voter registration scheme,” but a federal judge found the AG failed to offer "any plausible proof" of wrongdoing. 012

John Cavnar-Johnson @cavnar-johnson.net · 21/09/2026I have now. Interesting writer. Thanks for the recommendation 010
John Cavnar-Johnson @cavnar-johnson.net · 20/09/2026Has anyone written a comparison between the development of TESCREAL and the rise of spiritualism in the 1840’s and beyond? There are odd parallels along several different aspects. Perhaps there’s a theoretical framework with explanatory power out there. 5282

John Cavnar-Johnson @cavnar-johnson.net · 09/09/2026Down here where the whole kerfuffle started, the Rs are in danger of having committed a dummymander. They are likely worse off under the maps they imposed at Trump’s command. They certainly are not going to pick up 5 seats. They could have a net loss. 051

The experience you gain from applying human reasoning to choosing between possible scenarios. Both lived experience and the other kind are part humanness. 000
John Cavnar-Johnson @cavnar-johnson.net · 08/09/2026I can’t help but read this as the same tiger as Blake’s, caged somehow in the intervening years, freed now by the imagination of a child. 111
John Cavnar-Johnson @cavnar-johnson.net · 04/09/2026Maybe more like a culture medium. The Republican Party creates all the necessary conditions for organized crime to flourish. 020

John Cavnar-Johnson @cavnar-johnson.net · 02/09/2026Nobody believed me when I said I was working with SHITEMs and PIDLs. Wow, that was a long time ago. 010
John Cavnar-Johnson @cavnar-johnson.net · 01/09/2026This is a long thread (obviously). I think they may have missed a couple of Paxton’s scandals. I am not sure because there are a few that are hard to differentiate without going into a lot of detail. As always, with the caveat “that we know of” 210
John Cavnar-Johnson @cavnar-johnson.net · 30/08/2026That book probably isn’t what you think it is. It’s an argument against “biblical womanhood” 100
John Cavnar-Johnson @cavnar-johnson.net · 28/08/2026We should tell Trump that the lake is called “The One Big Beautiful Lake” in his honor. That’s what Lake Ontario means (more or less) 020
John Cavnar-Johnson @cavnar-johnson.net · 27/08/2026I did not expect to find myself in complete agreement with a take from Ted Cruz and Dan Patrick today. Complete agreement except for the part where they think it’s bad and it’s been my lifelong dream 020

John Cavnar-Johnson @cavnar-johnson.net · 22/08/2026I had lunch with Henry Kissinger who ate his crispy tacos with a knife and fork while my friends waited outside to splash him with fake blood 010
John Cavnar-Johnson @cavnar-johnson.net · 17/08/2026Ok, hear me out. I kinda hate statues of living people, so I was thinking of alternative ways to honor her. And… let’s rename that airport in Palm Beach to the E. Jean Carroll Airport. That would be awesome 110
John Cavnar-Johnson @cavnar-johnson.net · 15/08/2026It’s a good interview. You convinced me to donate. I was always going to vote for her because how could I not. This year is an opportunity to change Texas forever and she’s running a campaign that can take advantage of the current political environment 110

John Cavnar-Johnson @cavnar-johnson.net · 11/08/2026I think @jayrosen.bsky.social said it pretty well in [checks notes] 2005. “By the production of innocence I mean ways of reporting the news that try to advertise or “prove” to us that the press is neutral in its descriptions, a non-partisan presenter of facts, a non-factor and non-actor in events”* 140

John Cavnar-Johnson @cavnar-johnson.net · 30/07/2026The “good” news is that there is no way to build (or steal) that much power capacity in 4 years. John Cavnar-Johnson @cavnar-johnson.net · 28/07/2026This series sounds like it’s right up my alley. I just purchased “A Murder of Mages”. Thanks for the recommendation! 020

John Cavnar-Johnson @cavnar-johnson.net · 27/07/2026Interesting story. I draw a very different conclusion from it, though. You say “Ambiguity does not compile.” From my perspective, it is the opposite. Ambiguity often compiles just fine. The serious problem is that it fails at runtime in unpredictable ways. Often silently with a compounding cost. 110
John Cavnar-Johnson @cavnar-johnson.net · 27/07/2026Somewhat tangential to this discussion, I think it’s a mistake to call the House Speaker/Minority Leader and Senate Majority/Minority Leader “leaders”. Their job is caucus management and, in my view, that makes it nearly impossible for them to “lead the party”. False expectations -> disappointment 220

John Cavnar-Johnson @cavnar-johnson.net · 14/07/2026I think that should be the headline. Or just “Trump lies again”. The only newsworthy aspect of all these statements is that Trump is lying. 120
John Cavnar-Johnson @cavnar-johnson.net · 13/07/2026You don’t actually have to have a “religion” to claim this, although it is a lot easier if you do. You need a sincerely held belief.
