I can't not read it as exponents for some reason. Yes, I will take Final Fantasy... 32.

Did Sephiroth actually appear in that one? I don't remember now, lol

My daughter's been playing #FF7Rebirth again lately and it reminded us of this snapshot I got during my first playthrough a couple years back. She wanted Bsky to see it.

I found Dragon Quest I + II HD2D for Switch 2, $30 on clearance at my local Target yesterday. It's GKC but you can't win them all, I grabbed it regardless.

I feel like that's the highest resolution version of that I've seen, ha.

One alternative if you're interested might be to grab a Japanese Super Famicom copy. I know it probably doesn't feel the same as the SNES since that's what most of us played, but they can actually be less expensive!

Labor Day sale at Threadless knocks the base price for this and all our other shirts down to $12.50, and code BONUS10 can lower it even more.

Physical preorders are up. I may or may not have just bought the Collector's Edition. For people who don't want the CE, I'll also post an affiliate link to Amazon as soon as I have one so you can support CoN. na.store.square-enix-games.com/final-fantas...

Digital preorders appear to be up, but I strongly suggest people NOT do that for obvious reasons. If you must, though, the base game is $70 and the deluxe with a DLC preorder and one-day-early access to the base game is $100.

That is legitimately a crazy place to start with the series. I kind of love it. 😆

000

Caves of Narshe @cavesofnarshe.com · 28/08/2026

Ha ha, definitely. I think we even hosted a bad copy of that video for I don't know how long. I ended up with both N64 and PSX eventually and the PSX ended up the most used by 10x, for sure.

Caves of Narshe @cavesofnarshe.com · 28/08/2026

As an aside, I say that as someone who was firmly on the side of the gatekeepers until I tried FF7 about three months after it released. 😀

110

Caves of Narshe @cavesofnarshe.com · 28/08/2026

I was 17 and had played the FF games since the first and I think the divide was pretty instant but it was more about the flash and glitz of the marketing from what I saw on what made up the internet back then. I think a lot of it came down simply to gatekeeping.

Caves of Narshe @cavesofnarshe.com · 27/08/2026

Final Fantasy on NES, roughly two weeks after it dropped. I don't imagine that would surprise anyone who happens to read this.

000

Caves of Narshe @cavesofnarshe.com · 26/08/2026

I've seen more people hopeful that the Highwind Scene ™️ becomes more obvious and justifies an M rating, which just seems silly to me. Zero chance Squenix go that direction IMO. But I guess we'll see pretty soon.

000

Caves of Narshe @cavesofnarshe.com · 26/08/2026

I've seen this bouncing around socials since yesterday. Surely I'm not the only one who doesn't buy Revelation getting this rating? It seems like only the Xbox store guesses what the rating will end up being, but I can't imagine Squenix angling for an M on this game for so many reasons.

Caves of Narshe @cavesofnarshe.com · 25/08/2026

Perhaps not, I didn't realize it was going to be two and a half hours long. Revelation surely will be the end of broadcast game just as it was at SGF?

Caves of Narshe @cavesofnarshe.com · 25/08/2026

I can all but guarantee that the Final Fantasy VII portion of Gamescom's ONL will happen today during the brief time where I will not be able to be at my desk.

This is me trying out a new automation for when we publish a merch design. Looks like the thumbnail didn't quite work this time, I'll have to keep looking at that. Hope y'all won't mind the intermittent posts when something new comes up. 🙃

Caves of Narshe @cavesofnarshe.com · 19/08/2026

Thank you, appreciate it. For now, I'm just allowing Google's AI to see the site, because honestly that's better for gamers than not being able to find it. Hopefully over time everyone learns to use the real source and not the AI version. 🫠

110

Caves of Narshe @cavesofnarshe.com · 19/08/2026

It can get discouraging sometimes! Here's to hoping we're not all dead yet, though. 😀

000

Caves of Narshe @cavesofnarshe.com · 19/08/2026

Nobody's making a living off of CoN, it's just something that we do to try to share community and be useful. But if it looks like nobody can find the site any more, even with all the new players still joining the retro Final Fantasy community after all these years... 3/

100

Caves of Narshe @cavesofnarshe.com · 19/08/2026

This puts sites like CoN essentially into a death pact - either lose your organic traffic by being hard to find in search, or lose your organic traffic because users will get the answer from AI before seeing search results at all. 2/

100

Caves of Narshe @cavesofnarshe.com · 19/08/2026

It could easily be user error, but I'm looking at metrics and it really seems to me that blocking Google's AI scraper has the intentional consequence of getting nuked from organic search results too. I saw a dramatic drop in traffic coming in during the window where I had the block switched on. 1/

When I saw the FF7 Rebirth Orchestral Concert last year, they were selling a cocktail called Seventh Heaven. I played around with figuring out the recipe for a while and hit on this last night, and it was a hit at our neighborhood block party. I'll post the recipe if anyone asks. 😅

Gau died by his father's negligence who was driven mad and lives in a house by himself completely mad from grief. Guys, I don't think we survived that Phantom Train. Or the waterfall that leads to the Veldt...

000

Caves of Narshe @cavesofnarshe.com · 14/08/2026

From Discord just now: Everyone on the Veldt is dead. There's an injured soldier who thinks he's still alive and you have to send mail for him, and you play along because you think you are alive too. Every monster there is someone you have killed. This is also monster limbo. 1/2

The dozens of costumes, not just for Aerith but all the cast, are one of the few things that I'll miss about the soon-to-die Ever Crisis gacha.

I think everyone excited about this has already seen in Discord, but our most unhinged bot is finally back. And she's got a Bluesky now, which has been missing since Twitter started extorting people for API access. :P @salamando.cavesofnarshe.com discord.gg/r79HwdH

This was genuinely one of the concerns I had from the jump almost thirty years ago, re: slurs; I always wanted a site that was family-friendly and respectful and only solicited content in that vein.
