BTW: I only have the Italian DVD raws from Dynit's release back in the mid-2000s, which have sped up audio. If any of you have the Japanese DVDs, please link to me an active torrent. (I'd also switch to BD rips if Sunrise/Bandai ever decides to remaster this show)

The first batch, consisting of episodes 1-4, will be released next week.

Unlike Gundam, which portrayed realism through the use of robots of military weapons, Trider G7 portrayed realism with scenes of everyday life, such as warning nearby civilians via loudspeaker before Trider takes off and the need to consider expenses when fighting the enemy.

140

Following up the already lighthearted Daitarn 3, Trider G7 follows Takeo Watta, who balances being the boss of Takeo General Company, the pilot of the super robot Trider G7 and a normal life as an elementary school student.

Replacing Triton of the Sea (Which @haydenthehistorian.bsky.social picked up) is Invincible Robot Trider G7, the third in Sunrise's Muteki (Invincible) trilogy following Zambot 3 and Daitarn 3.

I was 100 percent unaware that they planned on working on Triton as well, and I think they'll probably do a better job subbing it than me. Besides, it might free me up to do another project I've been considering...

In much lighter news, my buddy Saiko has finished his release of Kinnikuman Movie 7, completing the Showa-era Kinnikuman anime! It's been a blast working on him as the editor of his English subtitles!

Should I drop Triton of the Sea? Hayden Fansubs, who's known for the ongoing subs for Himitsu no Akko-chan, has their own fansubs of Triton of the Sea planned. They have the their first four episodes almost done, and they plan to translate from the original Japanese.

130

I am in contact with the head of Saiko no Fansub (I edit their Kinnikuman subtitles), but they don't regularly upload on Nyaa. (Their Kinnikuman subs are often upscaled, which go against Nyaa's rules.)

Umi no Triton episodes 1-4 are out! Triton meets Luca, sets off to see, meets the Dolphin Brothers and Medon, fights and defeats Lady Dorithea, and meets Pipi. All in the first four episodes! app.mediafire.com/folder/dqe4i...

Despite being loosely based on Tezuka's manga, Umi no Triton debuts the tropes common within Tomino's work, surly antiheroes who are hated by the ones he must protect and a shocking twist ending. Many Japanese fans consider its themes to have foreshadowed the themes of his next work, Zambot 3.

The only translations that existed prior to this were crabstick subs from a bootleg DVD and ARR's subs, which as usual, contained Russian propaganda. This is a direct translation/adaptation of the Italian subs included in the latter release, from Yamato Video's Italian DVD release.

My second solo project for the renewed Project Z Scans is Triton of the Sea, the directorial debut of the legendary Yoshiyuki Tomino, based on the manga by Osamu Tezuka. First four episodes will drop either this week or next week.

Before you ask, I only used the video files from ARR's release. None of their MTL propaganda subs were used as a basis for my subs. All subs are translated from the Italian subtitles included within their release, which are faithful to the original Japanese dialogue.

All files will be uploaded on Mediafire now since no one uses Anirena. Feel free to upload this on Nyaa if you're able to, since that will give me more exposure. Episodes 5-6 are missing their OP and ED. Don't blame me, ARR (who ripped the Italian DVDs) didn't include them.

While it could have been FUNimation, the International Channel got broadcasting rights from Fuji TV, without subtitles, a year after NGN stopped airing DBZ with subtitles, suggesting that a change in policy in Fuji TV's direct export was the cause, not FUNimation.

010

Cavery210 @cavery210.bsky.social · 27/06/2026

Fuji TV could have applied this change of broadcast policy earlier than 1998, considering that DBZ continued unsubbed on NGN, as well as on the International Channel (which were both directly from Fuji TV. NGN also showed other Fuji TV shows like Hokuto no Ken, Galaxy Express 999 and Dr. Slump)

Cavery210 @cavery210.bsky.social · 26/06/2026

Kanzenshuu's wiki plans to include Dr. Slump coverage (as well as coverage of all of Toriyama's works). Are you familiar with that?

Cavery210 @cavery210.bsky.social · 25/06/2026

Here is Fuji TV's notice about the "accidental" broadcast of entertainment programs with subtitles, and the change of policy.

110

Cavery210 @cavery210.bsky.social · 25/06/2026

The license for Japanese broadcasts of DBZ from Fuji TV likely transferred to the International Channel in 1996-1997, where they couldn't add subtitles due to this change in policy. I've also heard reports that DBZ did continue airing on NGN, but without subtitles.

210

Cavery210 @cavery210.bsky.social · 25/06/2026

Just a little correction, but Nippon Golden Network did not drop DBZ's English subtitles because of FUNImation. They actually dropped it because Fuji TV changed their policies so only news broadcasts could have subtitles, not entertainment broadcasts. letsanime.blogspot.com/2015/02/yuus...

If you approach it as a sports drama that just happens to be about who will pilot a giant robot, you will appreciate it a lot more.

010

Danguard Ace is not a traditional super robot anime. The robot doesn't even fully appear until the 14th episode. If you approach it as a robot anime, you will bounce off hard.

Feel free to upload the files on Nyaa if you wish. That way, I'll get more exposure.
