Newcastle. Never change! You Must admit it's a great view that bit tho.

A group of people got together and thought 'What can we do to get clicks'. Social media is the cause of so much that is wrong with the world.

Takes some chutzpah to talk about the damage caused by press intrusion on the Duke and Duchess Sussex whilst having your book serialised in the Daily Mail.

Really, really stays with you, when those caring for you at your most vulnerable are uncaring. A betrayal of trust.

You could FOI numbers of parking complaints registered with local authorities, or numbers of Traffic Regulation Orders (double yellow lines) implemented - sorry to LA colleagues cursing me for another FOI.

I also find the framing in the media of “are you pro-Israel or pro-Palestine” infuriating and contributing to polarisation I’m pro humanity, I’m pro peace - I’m pro Palestinian life, I’m pro Israeli life, I’m pro preserving human life This isn’t a game, this is people’s lives

Going to be a warm one, gorgeous sunny day hereabouts.

I rarely watch TV these days, partly because turning it on is such an ordeal. I miss the times when you turned on a machine and it just worked.

Yeh, my eldest was born that week. It's been 19 years. I vividly remember those scenes as I adjusted to motherhood.

Pretty much everyone working in the public sector has been hoping for the opposite for most of that time, more urgently so as time has gone on. Friend just left front line policing as it was 'down to the bone marrow'.

Just ahead of the curve, we had fires in Manchester ages ago. It turned cold this morning (18 degrees). It was way, way too hot this week. I'm thinking Northumberland might be the future.

That I didn't take in. I was too busy thinking is this REALLY where we are! 🤣 But I guess politics is about reaching people and I am just old! Apparently Andy Burnham is very popular on Tik Tok.

My eldest was showing me the Prime Minister and the Chancellor of the Exchequer ranking pub snacks on Tik Tok, feels like there's a new kind of popularism in town!

As an immigrant to Manchester, this is *exactly* the kind of Manchesterism the rest of the country deserves. Endless rain.

💯 this, as someone from near Newcastle who lives in Manchester and travels between a lot. This was my favourite recent 'Manchester is not the North' take in the Newcastle Chronicle.

If you look at the demographic bump of people hitting very old age (ie likely needing care) soon it's a huge issue that no one is talking about. More than 75% of Stockport Council's goes on supporting vulnerable people.

One of the most important issues facing the country right now, not that you'd know, as the proportion of local government budget that goes into care edges up each year leaving less and less for libraries etc.

I'm really not sure they've thought this through. It is decidedly NOT a popular policy with my 13 yo and they're planning to give him the vote at the next election. 🤣

This comment is attracting more interest that expected! Online madness is actually a subject I actually wrote a blog on following the recent local elections. www.healdgreenratepayers.org.uk/councillor-b...

Maybe it's the sunshine and the heat. A friend in police always dislikes hot weather as it's when riots start.

Pretty confident that the racism is orchestrated, deliberately influenced on social media, from what I see on Facebook. No party is pushing back on any of it or creating a positive alternative narrative so it is becoming entrenched. This is driving the narrative social media needs regulation.

Appreciate the bit about east-west links. Remember when the Olympic Torch was going from Bolton to Wigan it took so long I thought it had got lost until someone explained how bad the roads are.

Now you have the world at your fingertips, and for some their neurons aren't ready for that. It's an environment built to provoke anxiety that, for many neurodiverse people it seems to be the overwhelming issue.

It's not people who have changed, it's modern life. Back in the day people worked in mills and factories, everyone knew everyone you went to town at the weekend. Life was slower and predictable. You didn't have to self service everything online. You didn't need interpersonal skills.

You've missed the BIG story in Stockport last night. Heald Green Ratepayers Association won Heald Green ward again, they have won every election since 1929.

As a local councillor I have to fact check every social media post I make, I know there will be uproar if I get a single tiny fact wrong. That's the world we live in. To write a highly contentious book without fact checking at all is 'brave'.

Whilst the economic back drop has been bad for the last 18 years, is it also the online age which draws politicians into worrying about how stuff plays out above actual delivery? Which is a self fulfilling downward spiral?

Chatting to a guy recently telling me how the £ & $ were absolutely doomed, the end is nigh, they were failing soon, as there was 'Nothing to sustain them,' etc and he was putting all his savings in crypto. It was a bit like talking to a member of a cult.
