speaking of flowers, i never did post the very first fafa drawing i ever did here! originally posted almost exactly two years ago (august 2024) hua cheng didn't expect those flowers to have /quite/ such an effect on his nose! oh no, how can he deliver them to xie lian now?

altho a lot of /that/ is probably fixed by understanding their history together hmmm. interesting to ponder. i think u could argue for writing it going either way (hc can still be impenetrable years into their marriage // hc is an open book now that xl understands more where he's coming from)

it's also always an interesting challenge to convey hua cheng's emotions when you're writing from xie lian's perspective too... like enough postcanon and he knows him so he can see thru some things but also there's so much that hc tries to hide & xl canonically has trouble reading him at first +

and he is (ofc) letting ruoye cuddle him even though he IS still so allergic (that's gege's beloved cat! hua cheng has to take care of him!) just sitting on the couch with both cats trying to be in his lap petting them and starting to sneeze more... and more.... until they or he has to give up 😳

so there's a dish i like to make which features some pretty common chinese stir-fry cooking techniques-- sichuan peppers are fried in oil to make it spicy, numbing, and fragrant, and then on TOP of that you put in garlic and MORE spicy peppers--
