I wonder how many people realize the US founding fathers had real disdain for the average voter. When you look at our system critically, it was designed for rule by the elite. The situation was different then. Today, though while vital we vote, the voter is still structurally a minimized actor.

So what's your astute recommendation? Ukraine surrender to Russia? The US dissolve so Russia or China can dominate? Honestly curious. What's your solution to peace? Bitching just to bitch is worse than useless - though maybe makes the bitcher happy. If you have reasonable solutions, please provide.

The US has never been perfect. No country ever has. But we can do our best and continue to improve. We just have to clean house. Throw out the trash. They've self identified so won't be hard to find them. I could be wrong, but I'll go down fighting.

Yeah, nope. Whatever you call home (true home) may not. But Ukraine has right to exist and will continue. Regardless of what Putin propagandists/MAGA think and try. And the true patriots in the US will throw out this cancer that has been festering for decades and restore the US as a world partner.

And I'll take the chance that all the great researchers and companies will leave if taxed too much. Do you think the billionaires really drive the economy? They are vampires for the most part. The Nosferatu version not Gary Oldman 😀. The brilliance in the US doesn't get the riches. The leaches do.

Seems to me, the federal government should tax the "crap" out of drug development companies and then fund the research efforts. Not be extremely restrictive as to what to research. But then the companies can't bitch they have to charge so much to develop the drugs in the first place.

Billionaire families have spent $1.7 BILLION on the 2026 midterms so far — a 5,200% increase since the 2010 midterms. Citizens United is among the worst decisions in history. It corrupts our system every day. Big Money is the root of our dysfunction.

pot market, it will be legalized asap. They probably have teams ready when rescheduled to get a federal recreational law passed. Money is all that matters to them. Still, maybe we'll get legal choices. Yet, how long before they find ways to screw it up, add things, make pot bad like alcohol can be.

There are so many things people can get addicted too. And often the same people would be fine with alternates. Again, like pot vs alcohol. But the morality police and the corporate interests don't care. That's a long post in itself. Bet if the alcohol and tobacco companies find a way to get into the

Yep, they'll do anything to protect their golden goose. Alcohol to many people destroys their lives and those around them. Some people though are fine drinking. Just like pot is a literal god send to many - though to some they do wind up screwing up with harder drugs. Gambling, sex, shopping, etc.

I don't think it meant to imply anything like a rape victim should be forced to carry the rapists baby to term. Just my reading of it. But I do know in some backwards (being nice) places it would be forced.

CatScar @catscar.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
I don't think that was what the post meant. At least I just read it to mean that men should be held responsible to the mother legally during pregnancy - and that there is no law on the books for that even though paternity can be determined at 6 weeks.

What happened to Alan Turing was a crime in itself. As for part of a punishment for a rapist though - I can agree with it. It's a lot better for the rapist than what I would do to him if he raped my wife or daughter.

Sadly, some people are stuck there at least temporarily. Some parts do have slightly more redeeming qualities, but the last few years even the best areas have been infected with the mind rot.

I find it self-promoting and self-aggrandizing of the super rich to say if they are taxed more, they'll leave and innovation and business growth will go with them. Super rich stifle innovation, limit progress. They are so full of themselves. I'm happy to take a chance they are right. 😏Let's see!

My respect for Lee de Forest has gone down significantly. I am glad she was able to find someone who respected her. As the spouse of an engineer and with a daughter engineer, I am sickened by the misogynistic attitudes. And when it was doesn't excuse it.

Right now, with Citizens United and Super PACs, it is not one person one vote. It is a few voting blocs propagandized into submission. Get money out of our elections. The corporations and super rich don't have the right to control things. It is time to take our rights back.

The patient's not dead yet. Time to destroy the cancer that has been growing these last years. If there are enough real Americans left, then maybe the surgery to remove and destroy every bit of the cancer will be a success and the patient will survive and even be stronger.

If you want energy security, energy indepedence, you work to maximize multiple sources of energy. And reduce the more volatile or risky ones. That is simply being intelligent. I don't get why that is so hard for policy makers to understand - unless they care more about kickbacks and personal power.

as we are, and I wonder how we want to deal with them collectively as a society. One caveat. I am not talking about people who don't try, who expect things to be given to them. That feel they deserve this or that. And they are everywhere from the poor to the rich. I mean deserving people.

because the federal minumum wage has in no way kept up with the cost to simply survive. In general, employers will pay the smallest amount they can - workers are just another resource to them after all. So spend as little as you can on resources. And so, the only limit is the required floor.
100
CatScar @catscar.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
The minimum wage was established to be a floor, a base established so employers couldn't take advantage of workers. Yes, it wasn't to be what most people lived on for their whole lives. But again, people have different situations. And the only way employers are able to pay below livable wages is

If you are saying there is no hope, nothing will change, then I see where your point is coming from. I just am looking for whatever possible path there may be. Maybe I am just too naive. But to me, the alternative is unacceptable.

CatScar @catscar.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
I am not arguing with your point. My concern or question is what are the alternatives? How do we get get closer to where things can get fixed? Where opportunities to improve the situation hopefully can exist. Not voting can be the same as voting for the other side.
