A still from the Adam Sandler movie “Billy Madison” with the words “what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.”

When I was four my favorite tv show was about a dinosaur and I was sad thinking about the dinosaurs were gone. Then I realized that time was less like a line and more like a flat sheet, so technically the dinosaurs still existed they were just located elsewhere in time. So, right around then?

Whenever I see a post like this it puts me in mind of E.B. White’s “The Decline of Sport,” which gave me a lifelong inability to take sports too seriously even though it was nearly 50 years old when I read it and remains relevant today. irregularveloadventures.blogspot.com/2012/01/decl...

He remains with them to this day. When asked if his body should be returned to them his father declined and said he should remain with his men. After the war all of the dead were removed and reburied in the same cemetery.

The insane part about this is not only that we’re betraying our own principles and our allies, but how cheaply we were bought. A barrel of diesel weights about 300 pounds. That’s 6.67 barrels to the ton, so 3 million tons is about 20 million barrels. We use almost 4 million barrels a day.

This is a disgrace to the United States military and everyone involved in planning and doing this. We’ve descended to the level of the dictatorships we used to call our enemies.

He’s that guy who has to be hyper competent because his boss is not 100% there and he knows he’s working for the kind of guy that The Art of War was written for.

The captain of the guard had his shit together the entire time, the emperor only got it together in the back half and part of me suspects it wouldn’t stick with him. Give him a few months with no shenanigans and he’ll go back to his old self.

My favorite might have been these three owls who judged all those who passed and found none worthy. They’re not as green as they look, that was the lighting.
A trio of owls with white markings in their black faces sit on a branch, harshly judging all who pass. Their white stomachs appear green due to the ambient lighting. This may be contributing to their judgement.

There are of course fish, and even a manatee, as well as displays of fish common to various locations around the globe like Fiji, New Guinea, and British Columbia.
A giant sawfish swims in a pool of water above a clear plastic tube positioned where people can watch from below.A manatee floats peacefully in the water, looking calmly through glass at the humans looking back.A group of small black and white penguins stands atop a rock in their habitat with a waterfall in the background.A number of brightly colored fish swim behind glass among carefully cultivated corals and plants.

Next stop today was the Dallas World Aquarium, which is so much more than that. It’s got a three story jungle habitat inside of it with a huge variety of exhibits in addition to a shark tank and penguins. Also, if the ocelot is not a friend then why is it friend-shaped?
The front of the Dallas World Aquarium, with the last two words visible over lush green foliage behind a fire hydrant and concrete slabs.A pair of giant anteaters sniff about their habitat, looking for delicious ants to devour.A large crocodile with mottled pale and dark scales lies in the water with its eyes closed, paying no attention to passing humans. An ocelot sleeps curled up in a comfortable ball with its back to the glass.

With the benefit of hindsight it’s east to see how the confusion, incomplete information, and competing reports could have resulted in decades of conspiracy theories. Considering our antics toward Castro it’s almost a rational response.

Went on a weekend roadtrip and started the morning with a visit to the Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas. The striking thing is just how close everything is. It’s such a tiny site for the historical impact.
A display of a barrier made up of book boxes in the content of the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository where Lee Harvey Oswald assassinated John F. Kennedy.A view looking down from the seventh floor of the Texas School Book Depository at the site of John F. Kennedy’s shooting. X markers on the pavement show the site of shots.A view looking up from the pavement near the site where the shots impacted the Kennedy motorcade, looking up at the Book Depository. The famed grassy knoll from the Kennedy assassination, viewed from the sidewalk a few feet from where John F. Kennedy was shot with no magnification.

Someone better have put that number straight into the DNC fundraising contacts database. I want Chuck Schumer’s office calling his ass up to ask for money.

Just put my ballot in the mail (I live out of state so a drop box isn’t an option) and I voted for taxing millionaires, against genital inspections for children’s sports, to expand protected categories against discrimination, and to fund public transportation among other things.

I’m eight chapters into Leda’s route in Fortune’s Weave so I’m supporting women’s rights and women’s wrongs but at some point the people in this woman’s life need to start taking some preemptive action to support her revenge because you do NOT want her coming up with ideas on her own.

Listen, I’m not even a One Piece fan but I’m pretty sure the author would absolutely write an entire arc where Luffy and his crew another brutalize the shit out of a Peter Thiel analogue and sent him straight to hell without passing Go for being an absolutely shit example of a human being.

Absolute unit of a lizard sitting outside our window, I love seeing this little guy. Just brightens my day right up.
A green lizard with plated scales asking their back sprawls across three sideways bricks in a windowsill looking slightly downward towards a green bush.

I started playing yesterday and went with the Leda route, where there are about twice as many women as men and Leda’s character screen says she likes pretty girls so this route is SUPER Edelgard. And I love it.

To kill time on my last day went to the Anchorage Museum of Science and Nature, which is a great way to spend part of an afternoon. They had locally discovered fossils, mammoth tusks, and specimens of local and extinct wildlife. You wouldn’t think Alaska had dinosaurs, but it did!
The outside of the Alaska Museum of Science and Nature depicts a giant carnivorous dinosaur lunging at the viewer.A hadrosaur skeleton, discovered in Alaska by a child exploring with their family. Hadrosaurs were thought to be the largest dinosaurs found in Alaska. The skeleton of an extinct giant cave bear is part next to a modern grizzly bear. The cave bear has relatively tiny back legs and massive front paws.A giant curving mammoth tusk rests on a platform in front of a taxidermy display that includes a lion, wolf, and wolverine.

Over the last week I traveled to Alaska for work, and I’m convinced it’s truly one of the most beautiful places on earth, in part because the touch of humanity has had so little impact on it. Between the cities and towns the road is the only disturbance in the beauty of nature.
A dense forest of pine trees frames a glacier lying between mountain peaks under a clear blue sky.A dense boreal forest surrounds a crystal clear lake with a single large cabin visible along the shoreline. Snow capped mountains are visible in the distance behind scattered clouds.A crystal clear mountain lake reflects the trees along the shoreline as an immense snow covered mountain towers in the distance.A glacier flows down a mountain valley over a green landscape of lichen and short grasses.

This sounds amazing and I’m 100% here for it. It also probably would have driven C.S. Lewis out of his mind.

Quick, somebody hook a power generator up to C.S. Lewis’s coffin. We’ll have solved our energy crisis for the foreseeable future once he starts spinning! And of course this sounds amazing. Just because the author probably would have hated it doesn’t mean I have to.

Poor phrasing, makes it sounds like the tariffs are legislation when they’re nothing of the sort. The article mentions not passing legislation, but the trade war is entirely an executive action that Congress is allowing by abdicating their constitutional duties.

He really nailed the vibe with those. Just sells it with the main character and his being a complete mess. I picked up a copy of Lord of Light the other day that I intend to crack open one of these days.

I’m left with the thought that if you ask somebody about their interests and they say WWII history it’s perfectly reasonable to pause for a moment and ask what specific part. If someone tells you they’re interested in Rhodesian history no further questions are required.
