Which is ironic since they tend to think North American accents are the knockoff version

It’s one of the Britishisms I simply cannot get used to (15ish years in the UK). I will pronounce the T in fillet and the H in herbs, and will not mock the unironic usage of someone having a “menty b”, but Nike-like-bike is a step too far for me

Also, has it not been a traditional pastime, for hundreds of years, for those with leisure time to go out in the countryside to paint, or take up botany as an amateur hobby, etc? Is it only a bad thing when everyone can do it, and it’s not just for the wealthy anymore?

I started replaying Mass Effect because I couldn’t get enough space, after Artemis!

(I loved HP once, but it is well past the time for any thinking, caring person to flee from anything it touches. The signs were all there in the initial texts, now that I have an adult’s reading comprehension, but it’s become a beacon for and financial vehicle of modern fascism. Cut that shit out.)

I’m slowly working my way through a gorgeous Folio Society copy of The Hobbit; taking a newly-edited version of The Falconer by Elizabeth May out for beers in the sunshine most weekends; and listening to endless alien smut audiobooks from the free section of Audible. (I contain multitudes.)
Photo of the Folio Society edition of The Hobbit, with foiled gold swirls on a red hardback, and a portrait of Smaug the dragon on the front cover.

Everyone probably already knows the plot, but I’d never read it before, and if I manage to finish it (I struggle to read physical books these days), I’ve promised myself the Folio LOTR trilogy to match it. Photo of the front cover of the newest version of Elizabeth May’s The Falconer, a golden design of thistles on a forest green hardback, with a crossbow at its centre.

Initially edited to suit a YA description, it has been re-released with the original, spicier “romantasy” spirit of the novel. I’m not gonna lie, I bought the trilogy to look pretty on my new bookshelves, but it’s really good (and indeed extremely pretty!)

Thank you even just for saying this, because I’m finding being the lone-masker harder than ever lately, and this has given me a little more strength for it.

I tried it once, years ago, failed spectacularly, and have thus continued changing duvet covers the agonising way—but you have convinced me to try again!

Doesn’t using this feature suggest to them that it should be continued? Why engage with something so obviously unethical and, frankly, useless?

Someone did this to my most beloved cat, several years ago, and the person behind them stopped and brought him to us. I will always be grateful to her for ringing our bell, and facing my devastation with such compassion.

It may be weird because I don’t know you irl, but I don’t personally know very many vets whose opinions I respect, so I have wondered your stance on things (general hand-waviness) and appreciate your perspective!

I read a really convincing argument that military elements in fashion/style increase along with the rise of fascism, and now I can’t unsee it 😭

I started using Pagebound recently and love it. It has old-school-internet, pre-enshittification vibes, a nice community, good functionality. Do I like the fun art/cover/bookshelf visuals of other apps? Yes. Are they worth the AI cost and enriching a tech bro who doesn’t even read? Absolutely not.

Last year I made a pact with myself to only finish WIPs and not start anything new. It was SO satisfying! And one of my favourite things I finished (just in time for Christmas!) was a bright magenta-pink Vinterskov jumper 😍

Maybe this is what you’re referencing, but did you see that one of them (Storrie, I think) follows just one person on instagram, but keeps alternating which one person, between his artist friends? 🥹

Throw out all the sleep hygiene tips you’ve ever heard and figure out what actually works for YOUR brain. It took my psychiatrist suggesting that for me to ever consider that insomnia advice isn’t one-size-fits-all. For right NOW? Do something that keeps you from thinking about the real world 🙃

My husband and my two BFFs are in London, Chicago, and NYC right now. Yesterday it was so beautiful here on the island that I felt sorry for them all—multiple times!—for being in some of the greatest cities on earth instead of here. Today I do not.
Screenshot of my weather app, showing 6 degrees Celsius and 54mph winds, with the forecast “strong winds and heavy rain”.Another weather app screenshot showing the hourly predictions for today, with 90-100% chance of heavy rain, and wind speeds ranging from 41-54mph

A mixed-neurotype marriage can be great—my mystical hypersenses can locate his missing phone for him 16 times a day because I felt it vibrate an hour ago from two rooms away, and he can use his special-interest gadgets to dim the lights and close the curtains to my exact meltdown-prevention levels 🥰

So I was here back in the beginning, but returned to the bad place for awhile. I followed loads of people then, so my feed is full of old pals 🥰 But it’s also about 50% sexy anime art (not my usual thing), from people I do not follow and have never heard of. Is the Sky just especially horny, or???

Skeet is a common Anglo-Manx word, it means the news/gossip/chat. You’d ask someone “what’s the skeet?” to ask what’s new. So it kind of works here, in that sense—but I still hate it because it’s “our” word lol and I don’t want the meaning to change, when the dialect is already so rare/endangered.

If you’re interested, I’ve bought some adorable lightweight covers for N95s on Etsy. They attach with Velcro to the mask straps so that no extra pressure compromises the fit. I don’t use them for every day, like grocery shopping, but they’re cute for special events! I can link you if you want.

I think it needs some time to pick up steam. More and more of my faves from the Bad Place have started showing up here though! I rarely tweeted there, did more reading and replying, but here I’m going to try to post more to encourage more interaction. I was glad to see you here!

Haha my parents still think those things. They know I drink alcohol, eat meat, and play d&d, and can’t decide which of those has caused my mental health problems (spoiler: it was actually the church lol)

Which is why nature made babies look like this
A 6-month-old goldendoodle, ginger-coloured with cartoon-like dark eyes and nose, very fluffy, wearing a pink tweed harness, and standing on stone steps outdoors, surrounded by green grass. She is very cute.

The 6-month-old puppy is having A Time today, so had to be put in her crate an hour and a half ago (all needs freshly met). If she is quiet for just five minutes, she gets to come out. So far her record is two (2) minutes without howling like a cartoon wolf—“ow ow owoooooooooooo” 🙄😵‍💫😐

Seventh-day Adventists also believe it to be literal fwiw. They work hard to come off as less weird than Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses, which makes them seem less harmful, but their end-times stuff is some of the scariest and most antisemitic evangelical doctrine out there imo

She had a slight fever when they checked her in, so she’s coming back home and we’ll try again on Monday. We shall save up any incoming luck till then! ❤️
